What led you down the entrepreneur path?

The idea started in an office job. I craved more freedom. This craving to work from anywhere and desire for complete freedom led me to start my own company.

For the two years prior to starting Ledge, I had the opportunity to serve as head of finance at one of the nation’s fastest-growing franchises. In this role, I experienced a firsthand view of the issues facing franchise owners when it comes to their accounting. Small business owners have two awful options when it comes to their accounting:

  1. Either do the accounting themselves (but this takes away from their operations) or
  2. 2. Hire a local CPA, who isn’t familiar which the business model and will likely charge outrageous hourly rates. I knew there could be a better option.

So, Ledge was born.

Unlike some founders who wait until their companies are making money, I left my office role when Ledge hadn’t yet made even a dollar. Some said it would be a failure from the start, that I was making a big mistake. That the idea wasn’t scalable. That I should stick with my 9–5.

Ledge wasn’t an overnight success — It took some time to really get the ball rolling. The early days were riddled with failure. I reached out to the wrong audience, with the wrong message. After some reflection and a lot of hard work, I made some vital (and common sense) changes which led to finally receiving a glint of hope, a phone call from a person who would go onto being my very first client. That moment was critical for me. A single phone call meant there was interest in our services and for me, that this whole thing wasn’t only a crazy idea. More importantly, I realized if there was one client who was interested in our services, there had to be more. Fast forward to today, we’re at 100 clients across 26 states! It’s been tremendous but consistent growth. Moving forward, I’m excited to continue to refine Ledge, to offer new services and continue to make our existing clients as happy as possible with their accounting and financial reporting.

Go in detail and tell us about how your brand works?

We serve our clients by performing all the necessary functions of an accounting/financial department for a set monthly retainer without contracts. We work on a monthly basis, meaning the business owner receives a complete picture of the business’s performance and financials quickly so they can make impactful decisions without a delay.

Similarly, if you own a mid-sized business, Ledge is an alternative to hiring a full-time bookkeeper. Our mid-sized clients are able to increase the quality of their accounting and financial work, while saving on average 30–50k per year through our partnership.

What is your giveaway idea through this interview?

If you believe Ledge is right for your business, please visit our website for a free consultation, and we’ll set up a time to have a one on one conversation!

How do you manage your finances through the services you offer. Any fundings etc received?

No capital raises, no debt. Early personal injection and that’s all. The business is cash flow positive.

Tell us your future vision about the brand?

We plan to grow slowly and consistently. Our client retention rate is 100%, meaning that not one client has decided to move their business elsewhere. We’d like to keep it that way!

What best advice would you like to give to aspiring entrepreneurs?

Jump, take the leap. Life’s short, and the biggest risk is choosing not to take one.
