The speed of business is accelerating enabled by new technologies (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Cyber-currency, Internet-of-Things, Biotech, Nanotech, Robotics) management and work-practices practices of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Increasingly the context of business is recognised as being volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA). A recent study indicated that the capacity of the firm to anticipate and react to emergent opportunities and threats in the marketspace in which it operates produces competitively superior performance. The study showed that the share price of firms with above average Dynamic Capacity outperformed their own industry peers by over 30% (over the 5 year period Dec 2014-Dec 2019). Whereas the share price of those firms with below average Dynamic Capacity underperformed their industry peers by approx. 15%. The study showed that the measure of a company’s Dynamic Capacity is a leading indicator of future share-price performance compared with sector peers and is of greater importance as an indicator of comparative performance in faster evolving, less stable, contexts.

There are the three groups of capability that differentially enable an organization to thrive in the dynamic context of 4IR:

The level of Dynamic Capacity is determined by the combination of three capabilities, determining the capacity of an enterprise to pivot and adapt in a timely manner to the future as it unfolds.

Sensitivity to the forces and events that could drive change (and the ability to make-sense of these, to distinguish which are most important to pay attention to).

The ability to quickly decide how to respond and to implement actions that seize on an emergent opportunity, combined with the ability to rapidly scale-up and replicate these initiatives elsewhere.

The ability to adjust the activities and assets of the corporation, how they are configured, what is within and what is outside the boundaries of the enterprise, and how they collaborate externally.

2. The desire and ability to develop Dynamic Capacity is driven by a strategic outlook that is forward-leaning; a hunger for the ‘to be’ rather than comfort with the ‘as is’. This also has three identifiable components.

A clear, ambitious vision for the future that aligns and energizes stakeholders. Often such visions are based on the pursuit of a societal impact (Purpose-led).

Empowering managers to own and to resolve seemingly conflicting goals; such as enhancing operating efficiency and also seeking greater flexibility, or the tension of delivering on current period budgets and forecasts whilst building the capabilities and processes for tomorrow.

The organization needs to be energized by continuous adaptation and adjustment. Organizations can become ossified due to their existing practices and organizational structures; departments optimising their performance at the expense of overall, total firm performance.

3. The ability to leverage and maintain the Dynamic Capacity is dependent on being effective in developing and deploying 4IR capable talent. In 2020, the World Economic Forum predicted that 50% of employees in developed economies will need to reskill, adopting 4IR relevant skills, by 2025. There is a significant and growing deficit of the skills required for 4IR, both technical skills and managerial and leadership skills. Most people haven’t had the relevant education or experience to manage in 4IR. Three key shifts in talent management are essential to operating dynamically:

The ability to continuously upskill and reskill, at pace, across large proportions of the workforce.

The ability to deploy talent fluidly and flexibly. In particular, the ability to form, perform and reform in teams, creating opportunity and career mobility.

The adoption of human-centered workforce practices that promote employee well-being and support appropriate flexibility.

Acceleration officer is the executive who, looking across the organisation, helps to identify where and how the agility and speed of the enterprise can be increased; they look across the breadth of evolving technologies, the opportunities for upskilling, adjusting business models and key processes to identify how to increase Dynamic Capacity. The Acceleration Officer looks outward to understand what are the developments that could have most relevance for the corporation and they look into the corporation to coordinate and enable continuous evolution. The role may be incorporated within the position of the Chief Operating Officer or Chief Innovation Officer or similar, or may be a dedicated person. It should not be viewed as a singular programme of change or transformation, but rather an ongoing requirement. The Acceleration Officer plays an important role in navigating evolution. They peer intently into the fog of the unknown future, providing insights and assessments for the executive team; they are responsible for helping to formulate the evolution roadmap. They also provide governance of the evolution journey, coordinating across all the different initiatives that are being pursued at any one time. The Acceleration Officer promotes the culture that change is constant and the mindset to ‘never settle’ but rather to always be seeking new ways to adapt, evolve and accelerate; building and leveraging Dynamic Capacity.

The Dynamic Capacity of the organisation is the measure of the company’s ability to adapt and adjust in a timely manner as the future unfolds. Dynamic Capacity is of increased importance the faster evolving or less stable the context of the firm. It is a leading indicator of future performance that can be measured. The Acceleration Officer supports the leadership to identify and implement actions that increase and effectively leverage the Dynamic Capacity of the corporation for competitive advantage.

Meet the girl boss who is helping businesses and influencers around the country build insanely brag-worthy brands:

Lauren Umpenhour is an Orlando-based brand strategist, educator, content creator, and dog mother, whose happiest of days are spent championing others to slay their big goals.

If you’re a creative millennial who daydreams of building a magnetic brand, now is the time and Lauren is your girl. This business rockstar is using her corporate knowledge and expertise to grow brands for small businesses, influencers, and bloggers.

Lauren has:

– Managed accounts for a Fortune 500 company that reaches millions of online users around the globe daily

– Relaunched an ESPN Instagram account that in the first two months generated an organic increase in page visits by nearly 500% and follower base by over 290%

– Developed media coverage strategies during the opening of Transformers: The Ride-3D at Universal Orlando™ and for the launch of American Idol 2018

After elevating brands such as The Walt Disney Company, Cox Media Group WFTV, ABC, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Carnival Cruise Line, and Advent Health, your brand could be next!

Why building a unique brand is more important than ever before: The Marketing Maven shares some tough love on Instagram, saying:

“Branding is everything. Your brand has the power to make or break your business.

A strong brand is a key to:

– Standing out in the online space and a competitive market

– Creating high-value and entertaining content

– Building connections and community

– Attracting your ideal customer or client

– Communicating your mission, message and values – Establishing credibility and gaining real influence

AKA every ingredient needed to cook up a revenue-generating business. STRONG BRAND = MORE MONEY + GREATER IMPACT”

How to know when it’s time to rethink your brand:

It’s time for a brand facelift if you’ve found yourself saying one or more of the following:

“How do I stand out? Nothing is working.”

“This industry is oversaturated. There’s no room for me.”

“My business/brand has hit a plateau and I don’t know where to go from here.”

It takes talent to build a strong brand identity, but Lauren believes that a magnetic brand is so much more than colors and a logo.

She says, “If you want a business that has the right people eagerly whipping out their wallets to buy from you and a brand that they’re completely obsessed with, then you need to tap into the power of who you are and the story that’s inside you.”

This is why Lauren’s clients find more success after working with her. Lauren understands the power of creating a heart-centered brand and can craft something authentic that resonates. With a story-driven brand supported with dreamy visuals and messaging, Lauren has no doubt you’ll go from: “I feel overwhelmed and frustrated in my business” to “I feel peace and abundance in my business.”

Say ‘goodbye’ to the questions and concerns, and ‘hello’ to celebratory champagne glasses. Cheers!

How to know when it’s time to bring in the experts:

DIY-ing your brand is doable, but if you’re ready to level up and stand out on a global level, then contact Lauren directly via email (see contact information below).

Here’s what people who’ve worked with Lauren are saying:

“Lauren’s positive energy and enthusiasm for both her work and helping others build out their brands is contagious. She brought my vision to life. I can’t say enough about her actual talent and work; she has a natural gift for creativity.” – Sarah, Instagram Influencer and Blogger

“Lauren is such a bright light in this world and will serve as an invaluable asset to any business or company she works with! She has the incredible ability to bring a brand’s voice to life on social media. If you haven’t hired her yet, take this as a sign. I promise it will be the best hiring decision you can make for your business!” – Lauren, Social Media Editor, and Blogger

“Bright. Full of ideas. Able to execute them. She always impressed me with her professionalism, great attitude, and understanding of the nuances of a big business well beyond her years. Anybody who gets to work with her is lucky indeed.” – Valerie, Copywriter

“Lauren puts 110% into everything she does, no matter the task, and it shines through her work. She made a lasting impact not only on the brand but every single team member as well.” – McKenna, Account Manager

Samantha Algieri is an actress and model based in New York City. Born and raised in Northern New Jersey just fifteen minutes outside Manhattan, Samantha is, wait for it, Italian. Being a first-generation American, Samantha was raised on traditional Calabrian roots that her mother made sure to celebrate and embrace. A small-town Jersey girl with a homemade meatball in one hand, and a dream in another. Samantha was not the outgoing Broadway-bound kid, or the one growing up that people would confidently assure, “that girls going to be a star.” Instead, she was the hysterical crier when dropped off at school, the kid who always had a “stomach ache,” because she was so shy that the thought of socialization actually made her want to puke. Plagued by debilitating anxiety and experiencing unfortunate traumatic events at an early age, the dreamer was suffocated by fear and guilt. Dimming her shine, Samantha hid behind different facades, one being the “cool girl” who spent her high school weekends comforted by Gatorade mixed with Bacardi. When she was twenty years old, childhood trauma caught up to her. The dreamer found herself caught in a web of dark emotions and she knew she had to heal in order to show up as her true self. Now, the ambitious idealist has embarked on an eleven-year spiritual journey in which she has found a sense of acceptance of a past she couldn’t control. Once having to had to be pried out of bed to face the day, Samantha eagerly springs out of bed with open arms, looks up, and says,” I’m ready.”

Who is Samantha Algieri? What do you want people to know about you?

I have three compartments to me: actress, model, writer. My writing specialty is sketch comedy. I challenge myself to work on a sketch a week. I have my BA in Psychology and I use that to my observational humor advantage. My writing ranges from the ridiculousness in society, political stupidity, self-deprecating humor, like my taste in emotionally unavailable men, and how I have a habit of burning oatmeal in the microwave. I find it oddly satisfying when a man automatically stereotypes me as a “good cook” because I am an Italian woman. I once put garlic powder by accident instead of cinnamon in my oatmeal. Look, it was an honest mistake! Both capsules looked identical, granted one was clearly labeled, “garlic powder,” but did anyone ever stop to think, maybe oatmeal has something against ME.

What finally got you started performing? Was it always comedy you were interested in?

I stumbled into the realm of comedy writing by accident. I was working as a server in a restaurant in Los Angeles where my boss was hosting an open mic night. A coworker put my name down on the list and I guess felt more confident too, “perform,” after a shift Whiskey drink. Improving my whole set, I used a piece I had written about how people in Los Angeles order their coffee versus a New Yorker. In short, it goes something like this. People in LA take their time to order anything because I’ve found Los Angeles to be the city of unlimited options. Do you want your coffee iced? Are we in the mood for a green tea matcha today? I mean you did just go on a hike, what are the post-Runyon Canyon taste buds craving? Or maybe we’ll do a hot coffee, it’s been a while. But wait, the transplant Angeleno shouts! Do we want our daily beverage to be a 16 oz or 20 oz? Actually, you know what, I’m laying off caffeine for a bit, I’ll get a turmeric shot. Even if New Yorkers don’t have to be anywhere necessarily, they always feel rushed. There’s always a bus, a train, a rainy day where, of course, you forgot your umbrella. A New Yorker walks into a coffee shop, knowing their exact order because they have no time to waste, even if they have the time. “I’ll have a regular black coffee, skim milk, two sugars.” The New Yorker will get lost in their phone, catching up on emails, and after about five minutes after ordering, they’ll get antsy and look behind the counter to make sure the barista is working on their order. Just when the New Yorker is about to say something, the magic words fill the polluted city air, “I have a regular black coffee, skim milk, two sugars for Jim.” The New Yorker looks at the coffee, sees, “Jim,” written on the cup. “My name is Kim, but okay!” Kim then rushes to catch the “L,” train, spills a bit of her coffee running to get into the train before the door shuts. Does Kim make the unreliable L train? I’ll leave that to your imagination.

To my surprise, I received a standing ovation, and multiple audience members asking when I was performing next. That was the night that I was validated that maybe I was funny. Don’t be fooled though. I have BOMBED plenty of times after that whimsical night. I found in this artistic journey, mistakes are what make you a better performer, artist, and honestly, human.

What goes into writing a sketch? Is it a short or long process? Complicated? Does it come to you immediately?

I have my own writing process. For me, it starts out with an idea. It could be something I saw, heard, or experienced myself that I want to bring to life. I whip out my phone and write the new idea in my notes or else I’ll forget. Then I’ll mull it over in the shower. I have my best acting performances in the shower, it’s a shame I can’t have comedy performances in my bathroom, it’s too small. All the ideas I get from the shower, I literally word vomit on a piece of paper. None of my notes make sense but somehow, I understand the scattered fragments. I have to write my thoughts down immediately after I exit the shower or else I’ll forget; I have the attention span of a goldfish. I then think of music that would go with the idea. I think of a few songs and go for a walk. I walk the track playing the songs on repeat. After my artistic walk, I sit in my car, write down all the thoughts I came up with. Are you still with me or have you logged into every social media outlet to check your notifications? I swear I’m getting somewhere. Then I storyboard it. I draw how I see the scenes from an editing standpoint. I write the sketch and then walk away from it for a day to clear my mind and read it with fresh eyes. I give myself a week to produce and film a sketch, so the birth process usually takes three to four days. Then by day five, the filming starts! I’m a one-woman show, I act all characters, have my own costume changes, film, and edit. When you love what you do, no matter how frustrating the journey may get, even if you’re alone, you keep going because it doesn’t feel like, “work.” I am currently working on a sketch titled, “The Real Karen’s of NYC,” stay tuned!

With everything you’ve gone through, what do you hope readers will learn from this?

I’d like people to feel my genuine nature through my art. I am a loyal person, my mom always embedded in my head growing up, “never lie because it will come back to you.” And, it’s true! With a studying Psychology and a life lived with mental illness, I want my audience to relate to my work on an emotional level. Laughing but also thinking, “Wow, that’s really true.” Saying it out loud, poking fun at dark emotions that people are too afraid to discuss but putting a comedic twist on it. I call myself a “third eye thinker.” The gift of being an artist is sometimes you see the world differently or as the kids call it today, “woke.” What may seem, obvious to you, may not seem so obvious to someone else. George Carlin is one of my comedic idols. He’s the comedian we need right now to boldly and unapologetically call out all the ridiculousness going on in the world today. I will gladly take Mr. Carlin’s torch.

Do you wish you’d done something differently? What part of your journey was the hardest?

Life is a challenge in itself. I’m not going to get all Forrest Gump, but you just never know what curveball life has up at-bat. I moved to Los Angeles five years ago with three hundred dollars to my name, swearing I would never come back to New York. I had this fictitious belief that it was the city I was living in that wasn’t giving me all I desired. When it comes to the flight fight response, my response is always fleeing the scene and fleeing it FAST. I tried to make Los Angeles work, but the reality was, I wasn’t prepared to live in a new city and face the entertainment industry in full form. I had demons of my own to work out before I could show up as my true self. I was embarrassed when I returned back to New York and refused to tell anyone I was back for months. Now, I’m really happy I made that decision. Oftentimes, our own negative thoughts flood our minds so much, we can’t hear or see the clear signs our intuition is trying to guide us to. What I learned from all my challenges is that everyone will always have an opinion on something, especially your vision. Appreciate the feedback but stay true to yourself. There is no one who knows you better, than yourself, trust.

What are your business goals? Did anybody in particular inspire you?

My goal is to work towards my own production company and producing my own television series. Aware I live in a world that idolizes photoshopped Instagram influencers, but my inspiration is Mary Tyler Moore. Although “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” was set in 1970, I identify with the character, Mary Richards. Mary is a spunky, witty, independent, intelligent single woman in her thirties. Although comedic, The Mary Tyler Moore Show touches upon women in the workforce and their struggle while being appeared as the “inferior,” one in the office. Fast forward fifty years later, women experience similar challenges. Society has progressed slightly, allowing more women to be in the spotlight, but the uncomfortability of a woman being in power still lingers in the patriarchy. I’ve been working on my own character, Vera Esposito, an administrative assistant to a Styrofoam cup company. Vera’s struggles are based on my own experiences as an administrative assistant working in a male-dominated environment. Working under a man as an administrative assistant, I always felt like I was playing the game of “go fetch,” except I was the dog. You walk into your boss’s office where he gives you a bunch of unrealistic demands to finish by the end of the day. “Here’s everything you need to do, now go fetch! Oh, and don’t forget to make my coffee and serve it to me!” Then you’d casually walk past your boss’s office from time to time throughout the exhausting day and always catch him on his phone, scrolling, laughing at something he read, or for all you know, he’s playing Candy Crush. My production company is called, “A Dollar Pizza Productions,” because, well, that’s all I can afford right now.

For those early in their journey, what would you suggest? Any tips or thoughts?

If you’re pursuing anything with only dollar signs in your eyes, stop now. Money comes and goes and while yes, it’s nice to pay monthly bills with ease, it won’t solve your inner demons. Do the work and the rest will follow. Work on yourself to be a better person so it can shine through your art. Work on your craft. Don’t get caught up in the viral video instant internet gratification. I know we’ve been in quarantine but there is a world out there, with real live people in it. Work on cleansing your energy so that when you walk into a room, you radiate. And most importantly, don’t allow people to project their insecurities onto you. People doing the least will have negative criticisms because deep down they wish they were as bold and fierce as you. Vulnerability is not a weakness, it’s a strength. Embrace it to attract all you desire and deserve. And if you feel like you don’t have anyone in your corner, know I am rooting for you.

Olivia is an Online Business Coach and Strategist who specializes in helping ambitious online coaches, Christian women who know that God wants their epic work to reach many people, and who know that their work deserves big awareness. She does this by helping coaches master marketing strategies.

She’s passionate about helping spirit-led believers who know that, without a doubt, they’ve been called to share their important work with the masses. Her clients are women who are passionate and on fire about their work. With a love for all things marketing and strategy, she offers a transformative range of educational courses and programs to help them succeed.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do?

I am a marketing expert with an extensive background in marketing. With 4 years of experience, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Media and Communication.

In my last working role, I was a Marketing and Brand Manager for a prestigious small business, which was a popular celebrity hang-out. Nowadays, it’s my mission to help online coaches, spirit-led believers, to master marketing and strategy for their online coaching businesses.

How did you create your brand? What inspired you?

I am on a big mission to help as many online coaches as possible get massive exposure to their work and help them make marketing easy. I teach them exactly how to achieve these goals in my signature course, God in Marketing.

I’m also working on a blog ( oliviagenevieve.co.uk/blog) that educates and informs online coaches on how to master marketing and strategy for their coaching businesses. I share insider tips, fresh perspectives, and key information to help them get one step closer to their work of reaching the masses.

How does your brand work?

It’s an online hybrid model, which consists of courses and high-level programs.

With self-study courses, it’s about helping as many Christian women as possible with marketing and strategy in their coaching businesses. I also offer high-level, exclusive programs which are available for ambitious women who are ready to receive specialized and customized support over the course of months.

Do you have a giveaway idea for our readers?

I have two high-level programs: a mastermind and a private one-to-one program that teaches ambitious online coaches exactly how to get massive exposure to their work on automation, so their work reaches people endlessly. This way, they don’t have to launch their offers all the time and feel chained to their business. In turn, they have more free time to spend as they wish.

What challenges did you go through while starting your business? What are the challenges you go through on an everyday basis?

Though I know the importance of rest and recuperation, because I’m passionate about my work and love it to pieces, and because I also love technology, it is sometimes challenging to get off it and actually switch off.

I see this as a negative, but also a positive — it is proof and evidence that I am most certainly in the right business!

How do you manage your business finances?

Spreadsheets are key to managing finances — Google Sheets are my friend. I don’t believe in being completely obsessed with money, because that takes the focus off being of service, which for me is first and foremost. Above all, I do believe in knowing exactly what is happening with it, for example: tracking where it is coming from, how many sales were made per month, exactly what my business expenses are per month.

Tell us about your future vision for your brand. How far do you want to take it? What is your dream about taking it to the next level?

It is my big goal for my work to reach many, many Christian women from all across the world because I know that so many spirit-led believers will massively benefit from it. My perspectives and teachings on marketing and strategy are a little different from most people’s, which I believe is needed in the online space. For this reason, I am especially passionate about my work reaching the people who I know need it.

What message would you like to give to anybody who has a plan of creating something of their own and making a living through it?

Passion, though very important, isn’t the only thing you need when starting a business, because feelings can be changeable.

Here is what you also need: grit and perseverance, because results don’t always happen overnight. You need to firmly commit to the decision that you are going to stick with your business, that you are not going to quit, no matter what. That is a key factor in how you are going to see success.

Also, know your target audience through and through!

Tell us about how you started your business and a little more about yourself.

I am a full-time student at DePaul University, and currently, a Junior majoring in Marketing. On the side, I started my own business where I currently help other entrepreneurs, influencers, startups, small business owners evolve with branding, organic marketing, and of course mindset help. I offer services for 1-on-1 coaching or consulting for the business owner and team members

What inspired you to create your brand? What is the idea behind it?

I started as a fitness coach. I always wanted to help people feel confident and make an impact on their lives. After some time, I started to lose my passion for fitness. It stopped being fun for me.

Throughout the couple of years that I coached fitness clients, I shared my story of growing my brand/business with tons of strategies I’d learned. I spoke of experience and utilizing social media to make money.

People started coming to me and asked how‘d made money online. They were surprised that being this young, I still was able to do so well. I thought about it and realized I could literally help others do what I did–and even better and faster.

I always loved entrepreneurship and the business side of things, because I was surrounded by entrepreneurs and business owners my entire life. It was in my blood. I wanted to become just like them and change lives.

I was able to do that with fitness coaching but I didn’t want to stop there. I needed more to fulfill me. I knew that the #1 struggle for people is starting. because being a beginner is never easy. It doesn’t matter whether you’re in fitness or any other business, it’s hard.

I didn’t have anyone to guide me, so I want to be able to do that for others showing them how to properly build something for themselves. With that in mind, I started business coaching and consulting to help others build their business up and create an impact just like I wanted.

How does your brand work?

All my clients go through a process when they want to work with me. I don’t want to take a client that I can’t help or doesn’t align with my vision. I hop on multiple phone calls and we figure out if the client is a good fit for me, and if I am a good fit for the client. If it feels right, we start working together.

For 1-on-1 coaching, I offer different levels via a month by month program. I offer mentorship as well. In these levels, I offer brand strategy sessions that help brands and entrepreneurs with goal setting. We create a 90-day roadmap that shows you exactly how to break down your goals into actionable tasks/steps so you’re moving the needle every day. It includes content creation brainstorming to help you create a solid content calendar each month, as well as how to acquire clients through strategies like copywriting, offer creation, sales, mindset, and more.

When I consult, the business owner, team, and I meet up and have multiple sessions on basically the same things, but more specific and in detail. Both services have received excellent feedback and have gotten positive results thus far.

Do you do a giveaway?

All my clients from now on will receive a free book personally from me with a note inside.

Explain the challenges you went through while you were working on brand creation. What are the challenges you go through on an everyday basis?

There are so many challenges. Switching from a “fitness” chick to a “business” woman took a lot of change. It was challenging because I’d already built my brand as a fitness person.

As I transitioned it was hard to get people to take me seriously at first, but once I started taking on clients it was a game-changer. I still struggle with being so young and owning my own business helping people who are older than me with their business. But, I have lots to offer and once they hire me, their business will flourish.

How do you manage your business finances?

My pricing is currently quite affordable due to COVID circumstances. I try to be fair with everyone looking to grow and better themselves. I do offer payment plans if that is needed.

Tell us about your future vision. What is your dream about taking your brand to the next level?

My future vision is being a full-time coach/consultant and helping all sorts of businesses and entrepreneurs grow and scale. I want to be able to help as many people as possible because I know that there are so many great ideas out there.

It’s just action and a little push they need to get started. I want to be the one to help change lives and make the world a better place with fair coaching and consulting. I want to build an empire at a young age, and being a middle eastern woman, I want to show everyone that it’s possible.

What message do you have for those looking to start a creative business and make a living through it?

I want to tell them that it is not easy. It takes a lot of discipline to create something of your own and make a living through it, but it is definitely worth it. It gives you freedom, and you feel more fulfilled in the end. If you want help, let me know and we’ll get you started.

Daniela Arango is a spiritual and leadership mentor. She works with soul-driven women looking to build a life and business on their terms. Daniela uses energy healing, feminine leadership techniques, and divine channeling to help women unlock their spiritual clarity, energetic magic, and soul abundance!

Hi Daniela, can you tell us a little bit about what you do and who you are?

I’m a mentor that focuses on the spiritual and leadership aspects of a woman’s life. I love working with women when they’re ready to build a life and business on their own terms. Some of the ways I do this is with energy healing, divine channeling, and feminine leadership techniques. My goal is to help my clients unlock their spiritual clarity, energetic magic, and soul abundance.

I had a moment in my life where things became more clear and made a massive impact on me.

I can still hear the words over the loudspeaker, “Buckle your seatbelts. We’re going in for a crash landing.”

The pilot had just told me that I had less than a minute to live. I looked out the plane window and out onto my life. There was so much clarity at that moment. Why had I been drifting? Playing it small? Afraid for so long?

It was at that moment when I made peace with my choices. I vowed that if I lived, I would spend my life discovering my innate potential and bringing the best out for others to do the same.

Seeing as you’re reading this, I’m happy to report I lived to experience a spiritual awakening and have become a woman of my word.

Since then, I created a life and business completely on my terms, living in Sweden with the love of my life, and building a 6 figure business helping others awaken their spiritual vision and badass self! With my podcast, “Mystic Podcast” I offer weekly experiences and help others bridge the gap between their everyday lives and spiritual selves.

I offer online healing meditation courses, 1:1, and group activations. I also lead a signature 16-week Mastermind, “Own Your Authenticity.” I come from a grounded base, rather than a mighty or “ascended” facade. I like to meet people where they are on their journey, at their level, so that there’s no intimidation or feelings of less-than. I also take a modern approach to healing by combining ancient techniques with my own personal experiences. This makes for a truly personalized experience inside all of my programs.

Through working together, you find yourself able to suspend your disbelief, break down the barrier of what you thought was possible, and experience the spiritual realm on a personal level.

Tell us how you created your brand. Explain how you used the inspiration during your scary moment on the plane and turned that into a business.

You can say my near-death experience initiated my brand. Ever since I committed to being 100 percent authentically myself. In doing so, I have recorded and accumulated practices, methodologies, and techniques that have gotten me to where I am today.

Currently, I am about to offer the most transformational program yet. It was born from almost burning myself to the ground trying to do what everyone does to achieve success–overwork.

I was exhausted. I finally turned to a divine source and asked for another way of materializing my potential. I was given the most revolutionary concept of time collapsing and quantum leaping.

My new program called “Soul Abundance” is a journey into Quantum Leaping, time collapsing, and 5th-dimensional living. It’s a complete lifestyle and mindset change around the energetics of money, new ways of manifesting, and balancing our masculine and feminine power. This program alone has taught me so much about the old ways of hustling and fear-based living. Since learning and implementing this concept in my life and seeing major results, I’m now ready to share all my secrets with the world. I believe everyone needs to learn and understand these principles, especially nowadays!

How does your brand work?

My business is ever-evolving. It’s basically a mirror to my personal experiences that I share with women who have been where I have been. I know how it feels to be in a place where your life looks okay from the outside but on the inside, it is simply not enough.

I know what it feels like to know you are meant for more and not know where to begin. I know what it is to feel as if you are playing safe and small, while deeply hoping this isn’t all there is to life. By sharing my story and my life, I hope to bridge the gap of what people think is possible for themselves. I do not teach or offer anything that I am not the walking example of.

What is your giveaway idea through this interview?

There is nothing you cannot be or have, you just have to find those who have been brave enough to pave the path so you can see that the possibility exists.

Maybe you have some sort of deep intuitive power, and you think you’re kind of crazy, but also think you may be a healer. You just kind of know things about others and you sometimes act as a mirror to other people’s energies. You may even feel that you can read energies. Those are the things I started to awaken after my near-death experience.

I finally started to step into my uniqueness and gifts. I stopped playing small because I realized I came here with a purpose. I had things to say and do, and I had no time to waste dwelling. I hope it doesn’t take a near-death experience for people to realize life is a wonderful experience. Look, life is short and every minute we play out of alignment with all the potential we are, we are wasting precious time.

Explain the challenges you went through while you were working on brand creation. What are the challenges you go through on an everyday basis?

I have gone through multiple challenges, such as people not believing I could achieve all that I have created for myself. But, the biggest obstacle has been navigating my own fears of trusting the ebb and flow of the universe. I am a very type-A person and it has taken me a long time to trust in the timing of things and not want immediate gratification.

Nowadays I focus on doing what I have to do to keep my business going but also leaning back and enjoying life, friends, and family!

What’s the future of your brand? What is the next level for you?

The sky’s the limit. I truly believe my business has no end goal, but rather since my own evolution is unlimited so is my business. I have understood that the more I continue to focus on my personal growth and healing at the same time that gets reflected on my clients.
I say go for it. The worst thing we can do is wait to be ready for the life of our dreams to take a step towards it. The truth is, the world is always responding to you. So if you act as if you are not ready, that is what the world will keep on giving you. Start and start today.
Carley Zuercher is an entrepreneur, certified coach, and host of the Tipsy Business podcast. After years of growing a wedding invitation company with her mom, she was exhausted. She hustled day after day for every single penny. She was certain there had to be a way to work less and make more money. Finally, she figured it out–and it worked. Now she helps creative entrepreneurs grow their Etsy shops, monetize Pinterest, and hit their milestones.

Carley comes from a family of entrepreneurs and started her first of many businesses in her closet during elementary school. She went on to get her business degree in Entrepreneurship from Wichita State University. She has since also gotten Certified as a Magnetic Coach ®, certified in Life and Success Coaching, Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Emotional freedom technique (EFT), TIME Techniques™, and Clinical Hypnosis.

She believes that owning a business can be fun and easy, and helps others find ease and enjoyment in their own businesses. Too many creative entrepreneurs and Etsy shop owners become paralyzed by the things they think they “should” be doing. By helping them create a profitable business that feels great without adding unnecessary things to their plate, her clients thrive.

Hi Carley, we’d love to learn more about you. Can you tell us what you do?

I own a wedding invitation business with my mom called CZ Invitations. We make high-quality handmade wedding invitations and ship them worldwide. I also own a business with my husband called Twocan. We help people grow their Etsy shops and businesses with ebooks, courses, and coaching. Lastly, I own a business with my Instagram friend turned best friend Laney Schenk of Design By Laney. We help stationers and creative business owners with ebooks, courses, and online support.

How did you come about creating your brand?

With so many weddings on hold due to COVID-19, I’ve been evaluating our business to make it more streamlined. This way I can help support other businesses via coaching, group coaching, and live courses.

As my businesses continue to grow, one thing became apparent: I don’t want to work more with each company. I want to scale my businesses and work less while still making more money. So many other entrepreneurs want the same thing. Now that I’m a few steps ahead, I help them do just that.

I’m a recovering perfectionist and over-planner, and once I let go of some of the control, amazing things started to happen. I stopped planning way in advance, and instead, I focus on what feels good in shorter sprints.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to be flexible. Taking it a day, week, or month at a time instead of quarterly and yearly has allowed me to build a fun, easy, and flowing business. As the boss, I get to do whatever I want. Having an easy, fun way to make money is the dream. I love helping other people find this place in their business, even if it’s planning the year out for them. No two businesses or people are the same, and I am trying to stop the copy and paste business tactics to give people the freedom to do what they want, not what they “should” do.

How does your brand work?

Since I own three businesses, there are multiple “brands” that I manage. I think my personal brand and the purpose of the Tipsy Business podcast is to show up imperfectly and remind people that they actually already have everything they need to succeed.

On the podcast, we have a drink and talk about business. We cuss and laugh, and it’s not professional. My audience really appreciates that I show up like me, with wine, and chat like friends. I’m not professional, I’m not proper, and that’s exactly why my coaching clients choose me as a coach. What I once thought was a disadvantage, I now know, is a superpower.

In all my businesses, Pinterest has played a considerable part, and that’s why I teach other people how to use it. My businesses have been successful at capturing and monetizing cold audiences using Pinterest. It’s my favorite way to market because it is completely automated. I can work on the parts of the businesses that I love, and still, Pinterest brings in half of my revenue for my Invitation business, which so far has been $50,000+ a year.

My businesses and brands are all about making things easier. Even for invitations, I want the process to be as easy and seamless as possible. I’ve figured out tons of ways to do this, from mindset to beliefs, to practical actions in your day-to-day.

Is there a great tip you can offer to our readers?

Your business really does get to be fun and easy. Hard days, weeks, or months don’t have to define your entire entrepreneurial experience, but often we let it. I firmly believe that less is more, even in business. You actually don’t need to do 100 things to be successful. I started Twocan with nothing but one ebook, and it evolved from there. Even still, two years later, I have only two ebooks and two courses (one of each on Etsy and the other on Pinterest).

We think business is hard because it’s what we see, hear, and even experienced in the past. But our future doesn’t have to be dictated by our past. Every day we get to decide what we’re going to do, how, when, and why.

As soon as something doesn’t feel good, I do 1 of two things…

#1 I reframe it. Instead of something that I have to do, it’s something that I get to do. A lot of times, I get caught up in the things that I “have” to do when in reality, I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to. I think many people can relate to this, “I have to send this email so people about this offer.” In reality, that’s made that up. We don’t HAVE to. We get to.

#2 if I’m really not feeling it, I don’t do it. I no longer force things in my business that quite frankly don’t matter. That email will most likely be better written and more well-received tomorrow than if I forced it today. I give myself permission to stop doing things that I don’t want to, and I invite you to do the same. It’s freeing and incredibly productive to trust yourself enough to know you’ll always do what is right when it’s right, instead of forcing yourself to do things based on fake rules we made up.

What are some of the challenges you went through when building your business, or in your day-to-day?

Owning a business can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be. This idea is something that I have always struggled with. I found myself doing unnecessary steps because I thought I needed to or because I didn’t know there was an easier way.

I think an ongoing challenge is balancing our work-life balance. I recommend having business hours to avoid burnout, but I also believe in taking inspired action. Sometimes I stay up until 1 is and work because it feels right at the time. Other days I don’t work at all.

I think it’s a fine line to know when the late-night work is obsessing or overworking. Most of the time, I think it’s the former. A lot of entrepreneurs that are just starting out believe the lie that “The more I work, the more I will make.”

Sometimes that can be true, but honestly, a lot of the time, it’s not valid. When I started selling invitations, I answered every Etsy message as soon as I got it. All this did was tell potential clients that I would answer right away and that I work seven days a week. This led to me working more than I needed to and set expectations that I didn’t want to (or couldn’t always) uphold.

I like to have set hours where I work IN the business, and then allow myself to freely create and flow working ON the business. For me, working IN the business is the client’s work, emailing, projects, where working ON the business is dreaming up new ideas or planning the big net thing. Even still, this is something I struggle with; I feel like I am constantly working because I absolutely love what I do. It can be difficult for me to “turn it off” sometimes.

How do you manage your business finances? How did you fund them?

All my businesses have been cash-based. When I started invitations, we started with just a couple hundred bucks. We ordered some samples and put products online, but everything we do is paid for before we order or deliver.

I require 50% to be paid before I order their paper, and that means never having to spend out of pocket. As we’ve grown, I do order things in bulk to get pricing discounts, but we’re still always running on a JIT system, which allows for zero debt and more flexibility. We do have a credit card which we pay off every month and use it to get points which allow us to travel for free often.

For Twocan, there are actually very few expenses. Again, it started with a couple of hundred bucks to get things off the ground.

If you can start your business debt-free, I always recommend it. Starting with debt isn’t necessarily bad, but it can put pressure on you and your business. Many people think starting a business is expensive, and yet after paying for the LLC (in Kansas about $250), we only put in a couple hundred to start.

What’s your future vision for your brand? What’s your next level dream?

I want to be a millionaire. Aside from the money, I know that when I reach 7+ figures in my businesses, it will be because I was able to help so many businesses reach their dreams and potential, and THAT is really the dream. Owning three businesses before I’m 30 made me realize I do have a passion for starting and growing businesses, which is why I help other people do just that.

In the near future, more courses are coming, and my husband and I have been working on an app to help Etsy shop owners and product-based businesses streamline their businesses.

What message would you give entrepreneurs and creatives who dream of making a living this way?

Take the leap. You don’t have to up and quit your full-time job to start a business–you can create a side hustle, get your footing, and see if it’s going to be a good fit for you and your lifestyle.

I recommend treating it as a business from day one, not a hobby that you’re trying to make a quick buck off of. I work with a lot of Etsy shop owners, many of which aren’t treating it as a business or pricing products as if it were an important source of revenue, and therefore not making money.

Just starting out doesn’t mean that you have to undercut yourself or operate at a loss before you make money. Price for profit, make policies and treat your business like you’re the CEO, not like it’s a hobby in your basement, even if it is.

Kelsey Reidl is tired of the bogus come-ons and gurus touting the latest, greatest way to launch your business to superstardom overnight. In fact, she’s frustrated that so many people fall for this approach to business, and are charging people ridiculous amounts of money for empty promises.

She reminds her clients that foundational skills, the skills that have been around for hundreds of years and help every day businesses thrive are the fundamentals you need to focus on, not some quick get rich scheme because it looks good on a shiny sales page.

In fact, she teaches her clients tried and true marketing methods that don’t force false expectations, and focus on solid strategies that go back to basics. Things like understanding how important referrals are, and word of mouth marketing, along with making sure your 10x factor leads the way.

Too many people have fallen through the cracks, forgetting the fundamental truths of marketing, and the things that matter. They get glossy-eyed over a quick fix. But a quick fix isn’t an answer that will stick. There’s no magic in the “make money while you sleep” ideas.

A solid business has a solid foundation. And that foundation goes to the core. It’s about having a unique selling proposition, learning how to position yourself within the market, nurturing your current customers, and working on repeating sales through referrals while earning the trust of future clients.

The Marketing Mastery Intensive™ was created for business owners who want solid skills and strategies without all the slick bells and whistles that don’t work. These are the steps that keep your business strong, and thriving, because it’s done right. There are no exaggerated claims like you find on hyped up sales pages, but what you will find is real actionable advice that will help your business grow stronger and stand out using healthy methods of traditional marketing values.

She’ll teach you the 7 must know principles of marketing, and you’ll join a group of like-minded entrepreneurs who are all working toward the goal of solid, dependable marketing that pays off, thanks to the investment of smart strategies and time tested rules that still work today.

Let’s make a customer’s experience remarkable. That will have them raving about you, spreading the word about your business for you, and sending you referral traffic. This is the right way to achieve strong, sustainable growth. Leave the exaggerated claims behind, and finally tackle marketing the smart way — the way that will give you real business growth.

Did you know the word of mouth marketing converts at 70%, while Facebook ads convert at 2%? Maybe it’s time to start looking at those time-tested processes once again. It’s easy to get pulled in when you’re made promises of quick riches, but they’re smoke and mirrors. Don’t get caught up in a game of chasing your tail. Invest in yourself and your business today with The Marketing Mastery Intensive™ and Kelsey Reidl.

Sarah Benken is passionate about supporting women, specifically high-achieving businesswomen that are overworked and lacking community with like-minded women. Why? Because she’s been there – in the wrong rooms, stretched thin, and feeling like she was alone on the journey.

As an accomplished CEO of 12 years, Sarah built and scaled her own brands internationally. She’s an award-winning entrepreneur who knows first hand what it’s like to lack those connections. Her need to connect with ‘her people’ and then having trouble finding them was part of the reason she created the environment herself. Her mission is to provide space for dynamic female leaders to gather, collaborate, and celebrate their successes and hard work.

Active in her community, she teaches CEO classes to pregnant teens, works with women through ministries, and mentors women throughout the country. She’s always been enchanted by women who break the mold, even while working in male-dominated fields. She believes in bringing women together and is living based on her personal beliefs and the KNOW mantra to Lift and Rise.

Sarah has been awarded the prestigious Forty Under 40 Award, while Metro’s Other Woman (Sarah’s first business) was a Winner of Triangle Business Journal’s 50 Best Places to Work. Sarah was also recognized as a Mom of the Week by Charlotte Moms and Charlotte Observer. Both she and her companies have been featured in over 40 print magazines.

Tell us about your community and why it was so important to you.

KNOW is where I connect women and help them become more successful through community and network. I am a busy, overloaded 12-year bootstrapping Founder & CEO, proud mama to 2 [Sidnee 12 + Brandon 23], and a long time partner to a tall, dark, and handsome attorney [Michael]. Thus, I get everyday juggling and desire for real balance and authentic relationships.

I’m passionate about supporting women, specifically high-achieving women that are overworked and lacking community with like-minded women.

I know what it is like. I’ve been there – in the wrong rooms, stretched thin, and feeling like I was alone on the journey. As an accomplished CEO of 12 years, I built and scaled brands internationally [and with no outside investments!].

My mission to provide space for dynamic female leaders to gather, collaborate, and be celebrated for their successes. It’s my life’s work to help more women business owners become millionaires. Not through a costly coaching program, but through connections, tips, lessons, and inspiration.

I help more women achieve 7 & 8 figure status in their businesses by:

Building a quality community for them to leverage.

Offering REAL TACTICAL advice, tips, and hacks.

Sharing my own stories along with stories from my community of who have walked the walk. We discuss the harsh TRUTHS about the journey, holding nothing back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Why did you create KNOW?

My primary goal for creating KNOW was to bring more women to the table and to build a community around them. I want to amplify their voices throughout the globe. The truth is, we need more role models and to see women who are doing BIG things. And, I want all women to feel celebrated for the hard work they do.

Externally, KNOW was created for exposure, by showcasing our female leaders; but internally, we developed KNOW for camaraderie, building alliances, and community. The Good Ole’ Boys club has flourished long enough. It’s time for women to get serious about linking arms and rising together.

At KNOW, we are diversity-focused and work hard to elevate the voice of EVERY woman. In January 2020, we installed our first Diversity Advisory Team for KNOW. Our Diversity Advisory Team partners with me to advise on strategies that elevate KNOW’s core values of connection, collaboration, and community. This team is dedicated to asking hard questions, having uncomfortable conversations, and ensuring KNOW is a reflection of the diverse character of our local communities. Together, we work hard to improve standards, policies, and practices that create a culture of inclusion and equity.

Can you give us more detail about how your brand works?

KNOW is a female collaborative built for high-achieving women. We believe women deserve to be known for the work they do, the contribution they make, and the expertise they have achieved. We also want them to be surrounded by others who are just like them. We engage with businesswomen in three primary ways.

KNOW Book. KNOW started to bring more attention to dynamic women doing remarkable things in their communities. Our goal is to get more women to the table. We knew there were an outstanding number of women impacting the community and making big strides in their industries. Our goal was to get those women from behind their computer screens and into the public eye. Thus, we created the KNOW Book, a carefully curated publication that features vision-led women in a glamorous and authentic style.

KNOW Collaborative. As the momentum grew, we recognized the need for more. We launched our Collaborative around the women featured in our KNOW Book. Our mix & mingles soon ensued, and we witnessed incredible things happening. We saw our women doing business with each other, creating friendships, supporting each other, collaborating on projects together and so much more. What started as a fun project to spotlight women, has turned into a full-blown movement.

KNOW Societe: KNOW launched Societe, its global digital platform for female business owners. Built for those in high-growth mode, Societe is the place for women to align through professional development, accountability, and community. Now, every woman can find their place, regardless of location or career level.

We’ve helped thousands of women get the education & results needed to take their business to the next level to become more successful. Our digital platform makes it easy to stay connected and accountable while receiving access to our weekly training, PLUS business, and personal hacks from leading industry leaders.

Do you have something to share with our readers?

We’d love for you to engage in our Free Weekly Masterclasses. We offer 60-minute masterclasses, on a variety of topics related to education and growth, every Thursday on Zoom at 10 am AZ local time. For more info, head to www.theknowwomen.com under the Events tab.

What challenges did you go through while creating the brand?

Cash Flow: As a bootstrapper, I know the true meaning of ‘cash is king’. Without hefty savings or investors, I have built two brands from the ground up and grew them into international brands. Bootstrappers like me get crafty. We learn quickly how to become master negotiators, collaborate, and establish partnerships and leverage our peers. When the cash flow is low, we have to be creative, or else we will lose it all.

My coined phrase is: A Cup of Coffee with the Right Person can Change your Life. The solution to this problem is to look into your sphere and find people that can help you get to the next level or phase. This could be through mentorship, connections, referrals, or support.

Everyday challenges are definitely balancing home and work life. As a mom, I feel like I am constantly juggling. It is overwhelming to be all to everyone!

How do you manage your business finances?

We are a cash-based business. No investors or big savings. We reinvest as much as possible to pay for our new initiatives.

Tell us about your future vision. What’s your next level?

Our goal is to be the leading female collaborative with reach across the globe. We aim to empower ALL women to link arms and build an underground network with a focus on our mantra: Lift & Rise.

KNOW Cares: Our newest initiative launching Fall 2020 is KNOW Cares, a 501c3 non-profit, which will engage, empower, and educate women and youth through a variety of local and global give-back programs.

A few of our programs include emergency relief for struggling female entrepreneurs, providing grants to aspiring female business owners through pitch competitions, leadership development, and mentorship opportunities, and ensuring sound education to youth in 2nd and 3rd world countries

What message would you like to give to anybody looking to create something and make a living through it?

It won’t be easy. You will have to do the work, but I am a firm believer that if you surround yourself with people who are smarter and wiser, you’ll learn way more than reading self-help books and taking courses.

Seek camaraderie with others who have already made it and ask them for help. Ask them to make connections for you. Ask their advice about your current struggles. And if it feels right, ask them to mentor you. I promise you’ll likely be surprised at what happens next.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

KNOW Tribe is a high-achieving culture that elevates and connects all KNOW women and their businesses, professions, and communities, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender expression, socioeconomic status, or physical appearance. We are united by our differences.

Can you tell us who you are, and what your purpose is with your book?

I’m a 38-year-old former division one athlete and mom of two toddlers. I’m proud to say I overcame decades of eating disorders and got in the best shape of my life (after having my kids!) by living life with balance.

My mission is to show other women how to live with balance (squats and margaritas!) to support and encourage them through their journey of finding themselves again. As I dedicate in my book, it’s for “the woman who lost herself”. I remind them that it’s not too late and that they’re not too old. Anybody can change their life.

What is your brand about? How did you come up with this idea?

My brand is about balance! I created it after losing 20 pounds by lifting heavier in the gym, while also allowing myself daily indulgences. For me, that’s a spicy margarita!

After trying every diet out there, and years of abusing my body through anorexia and bulimia, I finally figured out a formula that works. Balance. Balance is sustainable. It’s not a diet that you will eventually end up quitting.

Balance is a lifestyle I teach women, especially those who spend so much time in the gym only doing cardio and heavily restricting their calories. Women have been taught for such a long time that’s what we have to do for weight loss. After changing my process, I went on to lose twenty pounds. I was inspired to share this formula with women who are still frustrated by not losing weight. I’ve been there and understand the frustration. I know it can change their life because it changed mine.

How does your brand work?

I show women how to go harder at the gym, but also teach them to still enjoy life-balance. Women follow me for everyday tips and motivation, and to help them discover their best self.

Also, after finally disclosing my eating disorders to the world (in my book), I wanted my book and brand to have a bigger purpose. A portion of my merchandise sales goes to Project HEAL which helps fund treatment for those with eating disorders. I’m also in the process of becoming a mentor for Project HEAL.

I work hard every day to inspire moms to find themselves again. Once women have children, they no longer make themselves a priority, and it’s easy to lose their true identity. You’re not going to be truly happy every day until you’re happy with your body.

Do you have a giveaway?

I am happy to give away my book and a “WILL SQUAT FOR MARGARITAS” tank top!

What challenges did you face getting started? What are your daily challenges in business?

Growing my audience is a challenge. It gets frustrating to work so hard putting out relatable, informative content, then feeling like no one will see it. It seemed like similar lifestyle brands had huge followings and that was daunting. But someone once told me to stop comparing myself to other brands that have been around much longer.

My brand is still in its infancy. I had to stop comparing my following and engagement to brands that have been established for years. You just have to keep grinding. If you’re putting out great content, people will find you and start paying attention.

How do you manage your business finances?

I opened a credit card to buy all of my merchandise inventory. I don’t receive any funding. I use PayPal and Wix payments to process my merchandise payments. My book is available on Amazon so they process the payments and take care of the printing and distribution. Amazon pays me royalties quarterly.

What do you see for the future? What is the next level for you?

I want Squats and Margaritas to be a well-recognized slogan/motto. I hope to expand my merchandise line, but am starting with just a few items to see what resonates most with my customers.

Ultimately, I would love to host a talk show one day. I recently launched an Instagram live called, “Talks and Margaritas” and have landed guests like Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC, Monique Samuels from the Real Housewives of Potomac, and two-time World Series Champion Johnny Damon. I love talking to people and finding out their stories. I could see myself doing this on a larger scale someday once my brand grows.

Do you have a message for other creators who want to build a brand and make a living through it?

Do it. You have to at least try or you’ll never know what could’ve happened. Just make sure you’re passionate about it. If you are, it’s not work. You’re just doing what you love every day.

I would also recommend doing the things that you’re good at. Know your strengths. For example, I used to model and am comfortable speaking in front of the camera, so aside from content creation, I am the model for my products.

I’m also the photographer (iPhone) and video editor (iMovie), so I’m not paying for those services. I give fellow influencers merchandise in exchange for them posting it on their social media, so I’m not paying money to advertise either. When it came to the book, I knew I could write it, but I had someone professionally typeset the interior and another professional design my cover. That was not in my wheelhouse. Take advantage of social media to promote your brand!

Facebook and Instagram make it so easy for you to run highly-targeted ad campaigns. They provide insights so you can see what’s working and what isn’t. You don’t have to pay for a marketing company or publicist to promote your brand effectively.

Is there anything else you’d like to add?

In my teens and 20’s, I struggled so much with self-confidence and body image. You could’ve never told me that the girl who spent a decade of her life abusing her body and hiding a serious eating disorder, would at 38, launch a lifestyle brand to help women find their best selves. It’s honestly surreal.
