Something significant is happening with women in business right now and the data is only beginning to capture it.

Women are starting businesses at record rates, leading organizations at levels previous generations could not have imagined, and building the kind of public influence that is reshaping entire industries. The conversation about women in leadership has moved from aspiration to reality and in 2026, that reality is more visible, more powerful, and more consequential than ever before.

But visibility alone does not tell the full story. The women driving the most significant changes in business today are not just breaking through barriers they are building entirely new models of what leadership, success, and impact can look like.

This guide explores where women in business stand in 2026, what the data reveals about female leadership, and the practical strategies that the most successful women in business are using to build careers and companies on their own terms.

Where Women in Business Stand in 2026

The landscape for women in business has shifted dramatically over the past decade and 2026 represents an inflection point in several key areas.

Women-owned businesses are growing faster than the overall market. According to recent data, women-owned businesses now represent a significant and growing share of all US businesses, generating billions in revenue and employing millions of people across every sector of the economy.

Female entrepreneurs are entering traditionally male-dominated industries at accelerating rates. Technology, finance, construction, manufacturing, and real estate sectors that were historically dominated by men are seeing meaningful increases in female ownership and leadership.

Women in leadership positions are driving measurable business performance improvements. Research consistently shows that companies with women in senior leadership roles outperform those without on key metrics including revenue growth, innovation, and employee retention.

The funding gap is narrowing slowly. While women still receive a disproportionately small share of venture capital funding relative to male founders, the absolute number of female-founded companies receiving significant investment has grown substantially.

The picture is not uniformly positive significant challenges remain, and the progress is uneven across industries, geographies, and demographics. But the trajectory is clear, and the momentum is real. As agentic AI reshapes industries and creates new opportunities, women in business who adopt these tools early are gaining significant competitive advantages.

The Unique Strengths Women Bring to Business Leadership

The most effective women in business in 2026 are not succeeding by adopting a traditionally masculine leadership style. They are succeeding by bringing their authentic strengths to leadership and those strengths are increasingly recognized as competitive advantages. The leadership qualities that define great leaders in 2026 – emotional intelligence, resilience, and authentic communication are qualities women in business demonstrate at exceptional levels.

Collaborative Leadership

Women in business consistently demonstrate strong collaborative leadership instincts, the ability to build consensus, leverage diverse perspectives, and create environments where people feel genuinely valued and heard. In a business environment where talent retention and team performance are critical differentiators, this strength translates directly into measurable business results.

Emotional Intelligence

The research on emotional intelligence and leadership effectiveness is clear, leaders with high emotional intelligence consistently outperform those who rely purely on technical expertise or positional authority. Women in business who lead with emotional intelligence build stronger teams, retain better talent, and navigate complex organizational dynamics more effectively.

Resilience and Adaptability

Women who build successful businesses and careers in environments that were not originally designed for them develop exceptional resilience and adaptability, the capacity to navigate obstacles, find alternative paths, and sustain performance through adversity. These qualities are exactly what the current business environment demands from every leader regardless of gender.

Purpose-Driven Leadership

Women in business disproportionately lead with a clear sense of purpose building companies that solve real problems, create genuine value, and operate with ethical integrity. This approach resonates strongly with customers, employees, and investors who are increasingly making decisions based on values alignment alongside financial returns.

The Challenges Women in Business Still Face

Acknowledging the progress does not require ignoring the persistent challenges. Honest conversations about what still needs to change are essential to making that change happen.

Access to capital remains unequal. Female entrepreneurs still receive a fraction of the venture capital that flows to male-founded companies despite data showing that female-founded companies often deliver stronger returns on investment.

The visibility gap persists. Women in business are underrepresented in the media, on conference stages, in boardrooms, and in the publications that shape industry narratives. When women are not visible, younger women lack the role models and proof points that make ambitious goals feel achievable.

The double standard in leadership evaluation is real. Women in leadership roles are often evaluated more harshly than male counterparts for identical behaviors, confident women are described as aggressive where confident men are described as decisive, and emotional women are dismissed where emotional men are described as passionate.

The work-life integration challenge is disproportionate. Women in business continue to carry a disproportionate share of caregiving and domestic responsibility alongside their professional commitments, a structural inequality that limits career advancement and business growth for millions of women.

Managing work life balance while navigating these structural barriers requires deliberate strategy and strong personal boundaries. Understanding these challenges is not about dwelling in complaint. It is about making strategic decisions with clear eyes knowing what the actual landscape looks like so you can navigate it effectively rather than being blindsided by it.

Strategies the Most Successful Women in Business Use in 2026

Build Your Visibility Deliberately

The women in business who are having the most impact in 2026 are not waiting to be discovered. They are building their visibility strategically through media coverage, personal branding, speaking engagements, and published content that establishes their expertise and perspective in the public domain. Writing a strong press release for significant milestones is one of the fastest ways to begin building that media presence.

Getting featured in the right publication, building a consistent LinkedIn presence, pursuing podcast appearances, and seeking a business spotlight in credible media outlets are not vanity projects. They are strategic investments in the kind of visibility that creates opportunities, builds credibility, and attracts the clients, partners, and talent that accelerate growth.

Build a Network That Challenges You

The research on professional networks is consistent, the quality of your network is one of the strongest predictors of career advancement and business success. For women in business, building a network that includes both peers at your current level and mentors who have navigated the path ahead is particularly valuable.

Seek out women who are doing what you aspire to do. Build relationships with sponsors not just mentors who will advocate for you in rooms you are not yet in. And invest in the communities of fellow women in business that provide both practical support and genuine understanding of the specific challenges you face.

Master Your Financial Literacy

One of the most consistently cited barriers for women in business both as employees and as entrepreneurs is financial literacy. Understanding your numbers, knowing your worth, negotiating confidently, and making informed financial decisions about capital, growth, and exits are skills that directly determine outcomes.

If financial literacy is a gap, close it deliberately. The investment in understanding your business finances, your personal compensation, and your startup business funding options is one of the highest-return skills available to any woman in business.

Tell Your Story

The women in business who build the strongest reputations and the most durable careers are almost universally the ones who tell their stories well. Not polished, carefully managed narratives but honest, specific, human accounts of why they do the work they do, what they have learned, and what they believe.

Your story is your most powerful differentiating asset. No competitor can replicate it. No algorithm can commoditize it. And in a world increasingly saturated with generic content, a specific, authentic voice built around genuine experience is the scarcest and most valuable thing a professional can offer. A CEO interview or executive feature in a credible publication is the most powerful single visibility tool available to women in business today.

Women in Business Who Are Leading the Way in 2026

The stories of women in business who are building remarkable companies and careers in 2026 are not hard to find but they are still underrepresented in mainstream media.

Women entrepreneurs are building technology companies that are solving problems in healthcare, financial services, and education. Female founders are leading the fastest-growing consumer brands in the country. Women in corporate leadership are steering major organizations through the most complex business environment in decades.

At CEO Medium, we are committed to telling more of these stories because visibility matters, representation matters, and the women doing remarkable work deserve to be seen and heard by the audiences that need to find them.

If you are a woman in business building something worth talking about, your story belongs here.

Resources and Support for Women in Business

The ecosystem supporting women in business has never been stronger. Here are the key resources worth knowing in 2026:

Funding resources:

Final Thoughts

The women in business who are making the most significant impact in 2026 share a common set of characteristics that have nothing to do with gender, they are strategic, persistent, clear about their value, and committed to building visibility alongside the substance of their work.

The progress is real. The challenges are real. And the opportunity for women who are ready to build boldly, tell their stories honestly, and invest in their visibility alongside their craft has never been greater.

Your business story deserves to be told. And the world needs to hear it.

Gianna Contillo Badot (aka GCB) is a Business Mentor, High-Performance Life Coach, Mindset Expert, and Multi-Passionate Entrepreneur. She grew her business while mentoring alongside successful entrepreneurs, consistently studying new skills, obtaining new coaching certifications, and most importantly, learning from experience.

Over the past 12+ years, she’s made every mistake in the book, but failure has been her greatest teacher. Doing everything wrong in business gave her unique insight into what to do right in terms of scaling an online business.

Today Gianna’s focus is on helping passion-driven entrepreneurs grow their dreams and goals into a profitable online business. With vast experience, Gianna mastered the art of teaching and helping coaches go from struggling small businesses to coaches with successful, passionate careers.

When you work with Gianna, you get results. Change happens. Your business (and life) shifts in a powerful way. You never question her desire to lift her clients up. She loves what she does, walks the walk, and shows up authentically in everything she does whether it’s a program she creates or a coaching session she facilitates. You’ll even see her enthusiasm through each post she writes.

What do you do, and what is your goal in business?

I’m a business mentor, high-performance life coach, mindset expert, and multi-passionate entrepreneur. My passion is empowering women to follow their passion. Today, I help entrepreneurs and driven-goal getters turn their passion into a profitable online business. I do this with mindset mapping and strategic marketing funnels.

How did you end up doing business coaching? What was the path that led you there?

Entrepreneurship has always been in my blood. I grew up in my father’s business and always wanted to be the CEO of my own company. I started my coaching career when I was 18 years old as a health coach, and my first company was built right out of my parent’s home office. The rest is history, my coaching and niche has evolved over time, but I’ve been coaching ever since that day.

My brand has evolved as I have evolved. As an individual, I traveled all over the world to countries like India, Cambodia, Thailand, and Tibet while studying yoga, meditation, eastern spirituality, and Buddhist psychology. I then pivoted away from basic health coaching and started working on the mindset with my clients as a performance coach. This was around the time I started marketing my business online.

So how did I become a business mentor? Well, marketing online, I had no idea what I was doing. So, I hired a business coach. At the time, I was really struggling with sales. She approached me with an opportunity to join her team as a Sales Rep as an apprentice. The deal was, I would take all her sales calls and take part in in-depth sales training along the way. This wasn’t my plan of course, but she allowed me to run my business at the same time. It felt right, so I went for it! This role as a Sales Rep eventually turned into a role as a Sales Coach and Chief Marketing Officer of her multiple 6-figure companies.

In the process, I fell in love with empowering women. I wanted to help them start and build businesses. Eventually, I started my own business coaching company. That’s how I pivoted into business coaching and the work I do today.

Tell us more about your brand. How does your business work? And how do you keep going when you’re challenged?

My brand is focused on promoting the Passionate Boss Movement through my coaching programs, 1:1 consulting, podcast, and social media platforms. What does it mean to be a passionate boss?

During my 10+ years of entrepreneurship, I’ve been knocked down SO many times along the way. The term first came to me during one of the lowest moments in my business. It was one of the hardest falls I’ve ever had to get up from. It was in this struggle that I realized what it really took to make it as an entrepreneur. Just to give a little background at this point…

I’d spent all my money and was pretty much broke. All I had was a dream and the strength to keep moving forward.

At that moment I realized you need 2 things to make it as an entrepreneur: LOVE of your work & STRENGTH to keep going. By the way, both are words I had tattooed on each of my middle fingers.

And so, the term passionate boss is an entrepreneur or goal-getter who is living their life & running a business as their core self (their higher/authentic self). She’s passionate and leads from her heart, but is also FIERCE, strong, powerful, and most importantly…RESILIENT. She gets back up, figures things out, and is the ultimate boss in business and in life.

That’s the energy I channeled to get where I am today. And if I’m being honest, without this mindset I don’t think I’d be here talking to you right now because let’s be real: Entrepreneurship is a rollercoaster ride. The highs and lows of what it takes to stay the course and get to your goals break a lot of people before they even get close to the finish line.

Basically, the term is meant to empower the shit out of you and remind you of your BIG why in your heart. It also reminds you of the mental and emotional strength you need to preserve to keep going.

Your heart sets you off and running, but your resilience will actually determine if you make it or not. That’s why I started this podcast. It’s about helping you fuel your passion, with the strength you need, to get exactly where you want to go and beyond.

As for my clients, I work with them in my group business coaching program: The Online Passion Accelerator and via 1:1 customized high-level coaching + consulting.

What do you hope people take away from this? Do you have a way for people to get started easily?

My mission in life is to inspire women to chase their fears and live their passion. If you’re serious about building your dream business, a business you are passionate about but also one that’s profitable, I can help.

I just released a new free business-building workshop that you’re going to absolutely love. We cover the exact 5-step system that I teach my clients inside my signature program: The Online Passion Accelerator.

It’s an action-based system to help you scale your business to 6-figures (without a big audience or email list). When you sign up, you’ll get a workbook in your email inbox. It goes along with the training. You can work on each of the exercises, so you’re actually taking action instead of just taking in new information.

This workshop is ~60 mins so, yes, there is a time investment, but it’s a time investment in your business. That’s time well spent! You can sign up here: https://www.passionateboss.com/masterclass

If you’re ready to take action today on your business goals, and you want to know how we can work together, apply for a business assessment call here: https://www.passionateboss.com/applynow

What are the current challenges in your business, and how do you handle them?

Current challenges are balancing all the ideas I have for my business. I struggle with focusing on one project at a time. There are so many creative projects I have planned in my head. I’ve had to get really good at structuring timelines for when these projects can come into fruition.

How did you get started financially?

In the beginning, I used credit to fund my ads.

Where do you see the future of your brand going? What’s the next level for you? And how far do you want to take it?

I am focused on 4 projects for the long-term evolution of my brand:

Being of the highest possible service to my current and future clients.

Launching my certification program for coaches in 2021 (A transformation & mindset mastery certification program. It’s for coaches who want to up-level their coaching skills and guide their clients through the process of overcoming mindset blocks that prevent them from achieving their goals). This is all still being ironed out and is in the works. You can follow me on social media to get updates on this.

Do you have a message for those who are chasing their entrepreneurship dreams and aren’t sure how to reach them?

Never settle. This is your life. It’s your right to go after your goals, dreams, and passions, but don’t be fooled by what you see on your newsfeed. Following your passion and creating a life beyond your wildest dreams is a lot harder than most entrepreneurs portray it on social media.

It’s not all lattes and laptops on the beach, it’s a grind. But it’s a grind that is 100% worth it if you’re going after something which you’re truly passionate about. Your success as an entrepreneur depends on your ability to get up every day and continue chasing your fears. Most importantly, focus on your mindset just as much as you focus on crafting your marketing strategy.

Your marketing strategy can’t work if you have limiting beliefs holding you back or you don’t believe in your own success. Mindset is the foundation of it all, never forget that. Be ready to fail forward and build the strength to get back up every time you fall. Don’t expect to be an overnight success and be ready to be in this for the long-haul. If you stay the course, you’ll get exactly where you want to go and beyond.

Remember to stay in your own zone of genius, focus on yourself, and always be authentic, aka: never try to be like anyone else in your industry. Your superpower as an entrepreneur is your ability to be authentic and true to yourself.

Shania (22) and Anya (17) Bhopa are two female entrepreneurs, with a dream of changing the world. The sister duo launched a charitable organization called The Canadian Courage Project to support homeless youth and their animal companions across Ontario. The Bhopa sisters want to spread awareness of the poverty that exists in their very own community.

It all started when Anya Bhopa started volunteering at a local shelter, seeing that some of the animals brought in were previously owned by individuals who didn’t have the means to support them. In 2019, the sisters walked the streets of Toronto handing out winter care kits to all homeless individuals and their animal companions. The pair wanted to extend their impact, and so The Canadian Courage Project was born in May 2020 – and since the launch, they have helped over 1000 homeless youth. “Our goal is to support homeless youth in shelters and those transitioning into independent living,” says Shania Bhopa.

“To make a global change – it starts locally,” says Shania.

The Canadian Courage Project embodies three pillars: support, education, and collaboration. “We want to support homeless youth by distributing care kits that include hygiene items, food, PPE, and essential items to get them through their day,” says Anya.

“Our second pillar is education, we hope to inspire and motivate youth across Canada from elementary to high school through our workshops,” says Shania. The third pillar of the organization is collaboration in hopes to purchase all supplies for the care-kits from local businesses. As two individuals that grew up in a rural town outside of Toronto, the sisters embody the aspects of local collaboration and community activism. The organization works to find shelters, transition homes, and after-school programs to collaborate with and extend its efforts outside of the GTA.

The Bhopa sisters are two second-generation females that pushed to overcome the doubt, disbelief, and lack of support that is often put in front of female entrepreneurs. “ Especially because of our age, no one took us seriously for the first little bit, and it was soul-crushing, “ says Anya. The sisters hope to inspire and motivate other females and changemakers through their social media accounts.

“The biggest challenge for us was launching an organization during a pandemic,” says Anya. The sisters were faced with the difficulty of creating partnerships, and strategizing fundraisers virtually. The biggest challenge is connecting with donors, and community building, as creating brand awareness has relied solely on virtual marketing.

“Our organization is 100% donation-based,” says Shania. The Canadian Courage Project recently launched a hoodie line showcasing their slogan “Change – where equity meets well-being” to inspire individuals in the community to take action. All products sold by the organization are locally made and 100% of proceeds go towards supporting homeless youth.

The Bhopa sisters dream to support all of those that may be struggling to find housing and are living in poverty. “We want our organization to spread across Canada and offer free mental health and veterinary services for homeless youth and their animal companions,” says Anya. The sisters hope to one day promote the wellness of all young people across the nation. “We would love to have global health compulsory in the education system so that young people feel a moral obligation to support their community and practice active citizenship,” says Shania.

Find your passion and do not let anything get in your way of achieving your goals. The global goals are a great place to start and begin the journey of making a change in the community. Inspire yourself by surrounding your environment with positive and optimistic individuals and educational opportunities. You can decide your faith and your course if you put in the work to get there. Work every single day to be better than you were the last. We are rooting for you and sending you all the positivity! Said Shania and Anya Bhopa.
