Author: Sara Ezen, CEO, LightCycle

There has been so much hype around the metaverse in recent years, but its definition, what it looks like and how it will impact our everyday lives is still being debated. Is it already here? Will it last? How will it really benefit? These are some of the hotly contested questions I’m often asked.

Whilst it is still very much in its nascent phase, the vision is that the metaverse will help expand and enrich our real-life experiences, helping us to connect with people from all over the world in a more meaningful way. It’s the next generation of the internet; a persistent and shared virtual world where we can play, socialise, shop, work, learn and more. A connected experience where you can seamlessly move between platforms and experiences taking your personal digital avatar and crypto wallet with you.

As an older woman and a non-tech native working in this space, I’m a prime example of just how possible breaking through the barriers to entry is. My background is in the creative arts, training as a dancer from a young age; I’ve always had a huge passion for art and creativity. As an art collector myself, I used to feel intimidated going into galleries with white walls and expensive paintings with people creeping up on you asking if they could help you and looking down their nose.

It dawned on me that, whilst I spent a lot of money on art and am a pretty confident person, I still felt intimidated by the traditional art-world, so what must that experience be like for others?

So, I decided to take the plunge and open my first art gallery. My mission was to break down the barriers and make art accessible for everybody. I wanted to banish the snobbery around art, and de-jargonise it – essentially removing barriers to people enjoying art. I founded the brand Bad Art, which rapidly cemented its reputation as a disruptive and dynamic venture within the art world. I created immersive and experiential gallery events. These quickly gained recognition through several award-wins and high profile events including Paul Karslake’s Banksy-inspired ‘Bank Robbery’ exhibition, which achieved extensive national media coverage and critical acclaim.

As the world shifted during the pandemic, I became more and more interested in NFTs and their potential to elevate the art world through digital art. I saw an opportunity and began researching obsessively. I saw that it was evolving so rapidly and knew that wherever it was then, was not where it was going to end up.

Sara Ezen

I was then introduced to the dynamic founder of Vertex Labs, Ander Tsui and Bobby Zhu through a business contact in 2020. Ander and Bobby are true visionaries with a keen eye for disruptive ventures. They had developed this technology far superior to anything else on the market at that time and were building a hyper-realistic virtual city called LightCycle, set to become the go-to destination for art, film, gaming, music, fashion, sport, property and retail. Powered by AI technology, it would empower users, businesses and brands to create commercial installations, or purchase land and other digital assets through a seamless and secure virtual experience. Users would be immersed in a bustling virtual commercial city where they could engage with their communities in new ways, interact with their favourite brands in a stunning 3D environment, experience live sport and music events, browse NFT collections in an NFT exhibition hall, or visit the fashionverse district. I was hooked.

It struck me that, much the same as the art world, the jargon around the metaverse and blockchain revolution was a real sticking point for so many people. People in this space love to use all these acronyms and geek words – even the term ‘blockchain’ or ‘NFT’ made people glaze over. Having made it my mission to slice through the jargon and barriers in the art world, I knew I could do the same and add huge value in the Web3 space. So, I boarded Lightycle as its CMO to help drive and realise its vision.

Pivoting my skillset and black book of contacts, I got to work forming strategic partnerships that would take LightCycle to the next level. I realised that the key mistake brands were making was to focus only on Web3 natives. Yet for the metaverse to really take off, we need mass scale adoption. The real potential lies in brands leveraging the Web3 technology to engage with their existing audience in addressing current business challenges and capitalising on new opportunities. I knew that we needed to stop focussing only on the crypto natives because that wasn’t where this market was going to take us. We needed to retrofit it, looking at what the problems were and what this new technology solves. Because blockchain technology and NFTs really do solve a lot of real life problems.

It was through this exact ethos that I was able to secure partnership with British singer-songwriter, Robbie Williams, for whom we recently announced his 2024 metaverse debut with LightCycle. I’ve also brought in some more really exciting household names and big brand live events soon to be announced. These artists and events will feature in LightCycle so that their fans, new and old, can enjoy next-level interaction and engagement. We’re just elevating their entertainment experience in a virtually enhanced way.

I believe it’s really important to differentiate yourself in this market and to have a specialist USP. This is why, with LightCycle, we position ourselves as the metaverse for music, sport, and entertainment. People know that we specialise in music, art, entertainment and that gives mores impetus for them to come to us.

I think the possibilities for the metaverse really are limitless. The future is where technology and creativity intersect to create new paradigms for cultural expression and human connection in an increasingly digital world. Another big opportunity for brands is the ability to overcome authenticity issues, particularly for the secondary resale marketplace. Once it’s on the blockchain, it can’t be changed or tampered with, it can’t be reproduced. Whatever is on the blockchain is factual and truthful. That’s it, you can’t mess with it. So, it overcomes the problem of authentication. It will also speed processes up. For example, if you buy a house through today’s traditional model, you have to wait for around six weeks for all the due diligence to be reviewed and completed. If that was on the blockchain, anyone can access that immediately.

No one yet knows the impact the metaverse will have on our everyday lives. It depends on the power of computing and network abilities and the adoption rate of users. It won’t be an all at once moment, but rather a gradual collection of digital experiences that improve the way we live and work. As well as usage and adoption, it will depend on how much support and enthusiasm governments provide. Early data shows much higher metaverse adoption rates in Asia, MENA, and Europe than the United States. Which indicates that people in these regions have better access to the devices needed to use the metaverse, which makes it a favorable environment for the development and adoption of metaverse-related applications.

People say to me, ‘oh you work in crypto?’ ‘Well no, I don’t’, I say. Crypto is just the currency. Blockchain is a secure, digital ledger, like transparent record-keeping of transactions without the need for a intermediary. NFTs are a digital transfer of ownership and the metaverse is the just the next phase of the internet. It’s a conversation I never tire of. It’s definitely worked to my advantage that I’m not a tech native in this industry and I hope, in some small way, it encourages us to change the narrative on gender bias in the tech world.

Bradley (Brad) Fauteux is an executive who has demonstrated a consistent commitment to environmentalism throughout his entire career. He has held multiple positions, such as Managing Director of Ontario Parks and the Ministry of Natural Resources. During his time with Ontario Parks, Fauteux was responsible for overseeing a large team of 2,500 employees and managing a substantial operating budget of $90 million, in addition to a capital portfolio valued at $1.5 billion. Currently, he serves as the Senior Director of P3 Management at EQUANS, a company that specializes in providing solutions and services to meet the energy, multi-technical, and digital needs of industries, cities, and buildings, with a particular focus on improving energy efficiency and performance. This current position aligns directly with Fauteux’s long-standing dedication to environmental matters.

Fauteux firmly believes in the responsibility of leaders to contribute to the preservation of our world. In his words, “I believe that everyone in a leadership position has the responsibility to ensure we are protecting nature and acting sustainably. Without it, little of what we do or achieve holds significance or meaning. After all, we have to ensure that we have a place where others following in our footsteps have the opportunity to achieve their own goals.”

Fauteux’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree earned in 1995 from Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario, Canada. He also pursued further education, completing a Management Certificate from the American Management Association of International in 1999 as well as an Indigenous Studies Certificate from the University of Alberta in 2017.

In this capacity as Senior Director of P3 at EQUANS Services, he’s responsible for managing the strategic delivery operations of multiple P3 contracts in both Canada and the United States. His areas of oversight encompass transit, healthcare, transportation, and cultural infrastructure.

Contract, Vendor, and Client Management are the activities that take up most of my day. Making sure we are delivering on our commitments and serving our clients in the best, most sustainable way we can.

What initially inspired you to get into the field you’re in?

Leadership has always been the thing that I’ve gravitated to normally and environmentalism and sustainability are things that mean a lot to me personally. So being able to lead and contribute in those important areas has been great.

What do you think makes a great leader?

I generally subscribe to servant leadership so listening is where everything starts. As a generalist, I believe strongly in putting the right people in the right places and then making sure you can support success, help them grow, and clear barriers for them. I also believe strongly that what gets measured, gets done so I am a big proponent of having accountability systems in place to track success.

What is the biggest misconception about your industry?

The biggest misconception is that environmentalism and sustainability are only for environmentalists and that simply is not true. Everything we build, operate, occupy, use, etc. can be better more sustainable, and less harmful to the environment around us. Keeping this in mind, ALL of us are responsible for this, not just the environmentalists.

Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies have been common practice for more than a decade when they started to be thought of as a cheaper choice for businesses around 12 years ago. However, in more recent times, the popularity of BYOD has declined as businesses focus more on safeguarding their mobile endpoints and ensuring the well-being of staff, and there is much debate over whether BYOD is still a good choice for businesses in 2023.

What Is BYOD?

BYOD is the initiative of employees to use personal devices like laptops and mobile phones for work-related tasks. Activities include accessing emails, and connecting to the company network, apps and data. Staff use their own devices rather than company-owned ones that are managed by the IT department.

Businesses usually position it as a staff benefit, giving employees access to their personal emails and contacts even when at work, without the need of using two phones. For companies, it encourages better communication and connection, ensuring work phones are always on, within reach and available.

What Made BYOD Popular?

Corporate America was the first to introduce BYOD in a bid to boost productivity and efficiency in businesses. Initially, it was thought to increase output as a result of greater familiarity with the device – employees would be able to use their phone and laptop more ably because they’d already know them, which would speed up work activities and minimise the need for device training.

BYOD was part of the always-on culture in the corporate world a decade ago, and whilst it offered some benefits to employees it is now considered to have contributed to the so-called quiet quitting phenomenon which sees staff move away from doing any more than is strictly necessary for their job role and instead switching off as soon as they leave the office for the day.

For businesses, there were cost-saving elements with BYOD as it was viewed as a cheaper choice when it comes to communication. However, the downsides are now thought to outweigh the upsides of BYOD.

The Issues With BYOD In The Modern Workplace

Administration Headache

Settling people’s phone bills is complex and tricky with regard to tax when it comes to BYOD policies. It is rarely easy to process device usage bills, whether you opt for providing an allowance or settling the bill.

It’s hard to work out what’s personal use and business use if you choose to settle the bills, and both options come with tax-related issues as any reimbursement or allowance is handled as income and is therefore taxable – something most employees aren’t willing to pay.

Bills aside, using your personal phone for work leads to other concerns such as what the rules are for being compensated for taking business calls when away on holiday or what happens when you’re abroad for work. These matters are a headache for companies to resolve and often cause bad feelings among employees.

Money

Originally, BYOD was seen as having potential money-saving capabilities for business. However, the reality is that it often costs the same or sometimes more than implementing a straightforward managed device solution. While employees might like only having to carry one device around, the majority need a high specification standard on their device which means having to buy the latest model and spending more money, purely for work reasons – and often this results in businesses offering staff allowances for their devices, which is an extra cost on their bottom line.

Business Vulnerability

Introducing personal devices into the business world increases the risk of cyber-attacks, hacks and leaks – and given that security is always a priority for businesses, this is a major downside of BYOD policies. Despite the majority of security systems on devices having sandboxes for business information, these are far from easy to use and are not as effective as a result.

Poor Work/Life Balance

BYOD policies were originally sold as offering a better work/life balance to employees through being able to access personal data during work hours. There was also the added benefit of only needing one device to carry in the workplace.

However, nowadays the fact employees are unable to switch off when at home and enjoy leisure time on social media or browsing online, is a big negative of BYOD. Work messages and calls can come through on an employee’s device at any time, meaning there is no ability to properly take time off from work.

Conclusion

BYOD has limited business use in the modern world – there are some benefits and in certain situations such as for senior management or for contractors, it can be helpful to adopt this policy. However, incorporating this policy for the whole business can lead to employee resentment, administration headaches, and a weakened security set-up – and when you factor in the unlikeliness of saving any money, BYOD seems outdated in 2023.

How to Address the Need to Create Online Accessibility

The power of the internet cannot be overestimated – it is a vital lifeline for businesses and individuals alike and the beauty of it is that everyone can use it, right? Wrong. Today, one fifth of the world’s population struggles to access the online world because of an assistive technology need and by 2050 an estimated 3.5 billion people will rely on assistive technology.

There is no denying there is an urgent need for online accessibility. So how can developers ensure they adapt to create digital products all users can experience?

Today’s Online Accessibility Issues

Provided you have access to a device and internet connection, there are no physical barriers to the internet today and you can get online from anywhere you happen to be. However, not all websites and apps are created with the right design, information and user interface and some people simply can’t access these products.

This is frustrating for those individuals struggling with online accessibility, and it is bad news for businesses as it means that 20% of their potential customer base can’t buy their products or use their services as they’d like to. Not only do companies miss out on valuable sales if they don’t have an accessible platform but they lose brand loyalty and damage their company in the long-term.

People who can’t relate to your website’s interface, look and feel, or content, will lose interest and look elsewhere to a rival company’s website which offers greater accessibility and a more satisfying user experience (UX). It is likely that customers will switch loyalty to a different company altogether if they provide a more accessible alternative

When you combine the huge chunk of users that are being missed by businesses with the big demand to be online – this year alone, 93% of UK users say they’ve used online banking – it really is crucial that firms take action to remedy their digital offering for a far wider audience appeal.

How To Adapt To Achieve Online Accessibility

By flipping priorities around during the creation of digital products and placing accessibility at the core of each design, businesses will be able to create online platforms that all users can experience, enjoy and benefit from – design and content are the key areas to focus on.

Design

It is important to be aware that not all users can access the internet without the use of assistive technology and that thought must go into the design of new online technology to enable as many users as possible to make use of them.

Currently, 1.5 billion people globally suffer from hearing loss and 2.2 billion people have a short- or long-sighted vision impairment. In addition, 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women suffer from colour blindness. These are vital statistics to know, and developers need to incorporate this knowledge into the design stage – certain features will be tricky for colourblind users as subtle colour changes will be too hard to distinguish between. Backgrounds and fonts need to be easy to read, high in contrast and the colour scheme accessible to all.

Similarly, as with visual design features, video design features need to be factored into the overall design too. Make sure any video content is accompanied by subtitles so that those individuals with hearing loss can still access the information.

It’s a good idea to research how market leaders achieve high levels of accessibility so you can include some of these features and interaction capabilities in your digital products. Companies leading the way on this front include HMRC and Google, and both are good places to start for accessibility ideas. Including exciting features such as emojis and BSL (British Sign Language) prompts will take your accessibility offering to the next level.

Make sure you consider the end user and the UX you want to create for them. Think about how they will move around the site or app and the features that will help to make this easier and contribute to an overall enhanced experience.

Once you have your design in place, make sure you test it – and test it again and again. Ideally, you have a diverse design team and people from all walks of life will test your new products, this way you will hear a range of views and potential issues that can be addressed before launch day. Through people with different experiences testing, you’ll be able to discover any accessibility issues with new products and platforms, ensuring the end product is usable by a wide range of people.

Content

Online content should be easy to digest and relatable to as wide an audience as possible. Sadly, this is far from the norm at the moment and 90% of websites in 2021 were considered inaccessible to people who required assistive technology. Information on websites should be straightforward and easy for everyone to understand, or businesses run the risk of alienating a section of society and putting them off their business. Incorporating a clean structure into the content of your coding will ensure screen readers relay information clearly to those who are visually impaired. By incorporating accessibility into the design and content of your digital products, you ensure longevity for your business as customers and potential customers alike will be able to interact successfully online. This will not only generate sales but also good feelings towards your company to boost brand loyalty and encourage repeat visits.

How did BeBranded Agency get started?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Jawdat sisters found themselves brainstorming ways to generate income after being furloughed from their jobs. They soon realized they could exceed by helping businesses to recover from any loss they had suffered during the lockdown. They both have extensive digital marketing and business backgrounds, so they decided to turn their passion into a company. BeBranded Agency is family-owned and operated, their goal is to make their clients a part of the family and watch their businesses thrive from their digital marketing campaign!

Why BeBranded? Why Is Branding So Important?

“Branding is essential for any and all companies. Branding shows unity amongst the company, consistency, and gives your clients a first impression. What does your branding say about your company? Branding increases your company recognition and gives your company credibility in the eyes of your current and potential clients. Without branding, a company will come off as unorganized, messy, and confusing to clients. BeBranded focuses on creating an impeccable brand that will give your company the edge it needs to generate new clients and retain current clients!” Jackie(BeBranded Founder) says.

What services do you offer?

BeBranded Agency offers a myriad of services to help your business. Branding, SEO, Social Media Management, and web design are their main services. They offer various customizable packages to help your business in whatever areas you need!

Branding is essential for businesses to succeed. BeBranded offers a supreme branding package in which they will create a brand for your company or enhance the existing branding.

SEO, search engine optimization are crucial in this day and age. If you’re not ranking on page 1 of Google search results, you miss out on 90% of web traffic and potential customers. Ranking in the top 3 results increases your web visibility even further. It’s important to stay on top of your SEO to assure your company’s success.

Social Media Management is another huge aspect of digital marketing. Social media marketing is a rather new form of marketing. Utilizing social media to optimize your companies reach is a great way to find new clients. If your company isn’t on social media, you miss out on tons of exposure and a huge audience of potential customers.

Without a stellar website, you could be missing out on a lot of business. Businesses that have slow and old websites are less likely to convert web visitors to leads or sales. Search engine users are often impatient and don’t want to wait too long for a site to load, the more up-to-date your site is and the easier it is to navigate the more likely you’ll be able to convert a website visitor into a long-term client or customer.

What are the biggest challenges some of your clients face?

Our clients face a number of different challenges throughout the digital marketing process. Some clients come into the process with prior marketing efforts that need to be fixed and updated. Other clients may feel frustrated when they don’t see results right away. SEO and most digital marketing strategies are long-term and the rewards are not seen upfront most clients don’t start seeing results until six months to a year after signing up. It can be incredibly frustrating to pay for a service and not receive tangible results upfront, however, once you put in the time and dedication for a digital marketing campaign, your company will reap the benefits in the long run!

Eric Dunavant, the owner of Paradiem, is giving away his guide, “6 Principles of Transformation” to help transform the financial future of those who adopt the principles within the guide. It contains straightforward principles that families can easily adapt right away to change their financial behaviors and mindset.

Eric Dunavant’s business, Paradiem, is a financial advising company centered on helping families be more intentional about their finances. Dunavant is a Qualified Kingdom Advisor™, Certified Financial Planner™, and Financial Planning Association affiliate who has helped hundreds of families and businesses find holistic, simple strategies for saving money on taxes in order to be able to give back to causes they value and set up systems for multigenerational success.

Because he experienced a family tragedy in his youth that ultimately caused the loss of his father’s business, bankruptcy, and a rift between family members, Eric Dunavant deeply understands the importance of having a sound financial strategy that leads to the best overall outcomes for an entire family. To him, financial success does not stop at how many dollars one has in the bank, but at a family’s overall happiness.

In addition to his certifications and the Safe Harbor’s Real Man of St. Tammany Parish title, Dunavant has also twice received the New Orleans City Business Money Maker award and the New Orleans Area Five Star Professional Wealth Manager award. He is also an accomplished writer, having received high praise for his book, What If We’ve Been Doing It All Wrong? which explores the way one’s worldview can disrupt financial behaviors. Dunavant’s ideas have been featured in several media outlets and national publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Street and Family Wealth Report, and Dow Jones Daily Finance.

In his personal life, Eric Dunavant is a proud husband and father of three children. The entire Dunavant family has a passion for impacting lives by teaching the power of intentional generosity. To accomplish this, Mr. and Mrs. Dunavant founded To All With Love—a faith-based nonprofit focused on sharing the joy of service with others and impacting communities throughout U.S. neighborhoods and Central American villages.

“In everything I do, I ask the question: ‘What if everyone was more focused on their return on intention and the impact they were making on their relationships?’” he said. “It would completely transform families, advisers, and the industry as a whole. Having seen the impact this approach to finance can have on families, businesses, and communities, I feel strongly that the financial advising industry is long overdue for a transformation that turns the focus back towards intention and values. And based on our experience, families, and businesses who take the time to focus on the long-term outcome of their intentions tend to experience a higher return on investment as well.”

Paradiem

Looking forward, Eric Dunavant has a vision to completely transform the financial industry.

“Right now, the financial industry ship is sailing in a very specific direction,” he said. “It’s designed to put a ton of money into certain hands, and those hands aren’t interested in change for obvious reasons—so turning the tide won’t be easy. However, I truly believe that every family and business we can impact will then have its impact—that the ripple effect of this change will last for generations. I doubt my dream will be completed in my lifetime, but what if I equip the next generation with the right skills and thought processes, and they completely transform an industry? To me, it’s worth pursuing whether I’m alive to see that vision come to fruition or not.”

To learn more about Paradiem and Eric Dunavant and receive his free guide today, email eric@paradiem.org and put “Principles” in the subject line or visit www.paradiem.org.

Monique Rose is a restaurateur and serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience growing and developing several multi-million-dollar businesses. She’s the co-owner of Milk & Honey Café, which has had resounding success to the tune of over $15 million in revenue since 2016. Monique’s vast experience in the restaurant industry saw her in every position possible, from bartending at the age of 18, all the way up to owning a restaurant.

In January 2020, with the launch of Mink & Honey, she took her years of business acumen and experience, and built a beauty, health, and wellness brand. Her goal is in helping entrepreneurs, specifically women. With her new line, she’s created an affiliate program that will pay a generous 50% commission, and afford the opportunity for others to create their own business.

Monique Rose attributes her personality, quick wit, and ability to relate to others in helping her work across every demographic, including male dominated industries. Her vision is to inspire her followers to push forward and not to give up on their dreams.

Can you tell us a little about yourself, and your new brand Mink & Honey?

I am a successful serial entrepreneur in the restaurant industry, and am now pursuing my newest venture, Mink & Honey. Mink & Honey is a beauty, health & wellness brand that focuses on beautifying women and men from the inside, out. Aside from running my six restaurant locations, and launching my new beauty brand, I also coach aspiring entrepreneurs.

How did you create Mink & Honey? What went into the process?

I created Mink & Honey from a need. I wanted professional-grade skin care products that didn’t irritate my sensitive skin. I recognized that women were into makeup and the desire to enhance their natural beauty, however they missed the foundation of beauty: great skin.

Mink & Honey is centered around skin care through a full skin care line. It’s also accentuated by additional beauty products such as mink lashes, luxury hair, and health & wellness products such as weight loss and detoxes.

What is the main focus of Mink & Honey?

Mink & Honey is focused on beautifying and empowering women. Whether they simply want better skin, or fuller and/or longer hair. We also have products if women want to lose weight; Mink & Honey has a product for every need.

As an entrepreneur, what would you tell others? What did you learn as you came up in business?

I’m a firm believer in hard work intersecting with success 100% of the time. Just four short years ago, I was only earning $500 per week. Since then, I’ve built a multi-million dollar empire. Mink & Honey is a testimony to all women and aspiring entrepreneurs that there’s something extraordinary on the other side of fear and adversity.

I hope my story resonates with someone to remain hopeful, even in times of struggle. I was a teenage mother from Milwaukee, Wisconsin with only a high school diploma. Still, I was able to build an amazing life. If I can overcome it, so can they.

What challenges did you face during your brand creation? What are the challenges you go through on an everyday basis?

My biggest challenge during brand creation was sourcing product and manufacturing. I wanted everything to be the best quality possible down to the packaging. My biggest challenge on an everyday basis is juggling all aspects of running multiple businesses and building a team. It’s difficult to give the proper care and attention to my companies and build a new brand at the same time.

How do you manage your business finances?

I have been very careful throughout this journey to not over leverage our businesses. I think the biggest mistake entrepreneurs make is to spend too much money too fast and too incur too much debt. My businesses are all debt free and were started with only the cash we had on hand and our sweat equity. As I make money, I spend money and we focus only on providing a great product every single time. The product causes our consumer to tell the story for us and that is the best marketing there is.

Tell us your future vision for Mink & Honey. Where do you see the next level being?

My future vision for Mink & Honey is to develop the business into a lifestyle brand. I want to create a company that not only provides great products but also provides a way for people to earn money and a better life for their families.

I want to take the company global and have affiliates on every continent. My dream for the next level is to become a household name and be a hybrid of the very best. Think Mary Kay x Total Life Changes on steroids. I think launching this company that is 100% African-American AND Woman owned is exactly what is needed right now in today’s climate in society.

What message would you give to somebody looking to build a living from their creative endeavours?

I would say that first, understand exactly who your audience is and exactly what problem you solve for them. Once you understand that, you need to stick to exactly what your product or service plan is. Don’t deviate and don’t try to do everything. Pick something and do that something better than everybody else. And work harder than everybody else, including yourself from yesterday.

Shawn Engel, the owner of Witchy Wisdoms, is a spiritual mentor, brand strategist, 6 figure entrepreneur, and published author. Primarily she works with other spiritual entrepreneurs to help them solidify their brand and land features for exposure, but she continues to work as an abundance coach, helping women find their spirituality and build a firm foundation of gratitude on which to manifest from. She has worked with thousands of women by performing Tarot readings, leading spell work and rituals, teaching manifestation lessons, and providing business strategies and mindset work. She has been featured in multiple publications including Cosmopolitan, Bust, and Sabat magazine, and is the author of Cosmopolitan’s book on Love Spells, The Power of Hex (Chicago Review Press, September 2020), and Witches Brew (Sterling publishing, 2021). She recently founded the Boss Mystic Podcast Network, which is a growing home to witchcraft podcasts, including two of her own, The Boss Mystic and True Crime Astrology.

What is your entrepreneurial story? How did you come about building your business?

I came into my purpose after many personal hardships. Due to my own codependency, and a smattering of unfortunate circumstances, I turned to therapy and the Tarot to help me heal. Through that work, I created the blog Witchy Wisdoms, and because it did so well, I turned it into a life coaching business to teach other women what I was learning about empowerment. Four years later, and it’s a 6 figure coaching business that now hinges on a brand strategy to help the next wave of women do the same.

What is your business model — how were you able to grow so fast?

My business model works by launching various courses, programs, and 1:1 mentorship offerings. I have tiers for every level (including tons of free value on every platform you can think of) and because of that, I am able to serve as many women as possible. I think the reason why I was able to scale so fast was that I had a mentor of my own, a really solidified and confident brand identity, and was able to contextualize it on every platform out there.

Can you give me an overview of who you are, what is your educational or overall background? What are some of your achievements?

Funny enough, I didn’t think I had any achievements before about 4 years ago. I graduated with a business undergrad, expecting to become the first female owner of an NBA team. When I moved from Los Angeles to New York City in order to first pursue that dream as a sports agent, I ended up working in restaurants as a waitress and bartender until I was made to face my demons. And when the day finally came, I found my true path and haven’t looked back! It’s brought me three-book deals, many media features, and growing business that I am so grateful for.

What have you learned through your experiences as an entrepreneur that can be used by aspiring business individuals?

Don’t give up! If what you’re doing isn’t working, don’t take it personally. There is usually a lesson to be learned or a boundary to create that will lead you out of the fire. But entrepreneurship is a roller coaster, and it isn’t for the faint of heart. Keep persevering and showing up in a way you can be proud of.

What makes your business so unique and successful?

In a world where the word “authentic” is thrown around so casually, I think my business thrives because I embody the true meaning. I am 100% myself in every capacity and lead with empathy. This is why people are so drawn to my brand, no matter how niche it is!

What have you learned through your journey as an entrepreneur?

That there is always deeper to go when learning about yourself. Being in the public eye will challenge every thought you’ve had about yourself, and so will building a business. If you are open to growing and evolving in pursuit of a better version of yourself, it’s much less frightening and intimidating as it can be.

What skills and attributes make you as successful as you are?

I am dedicated, a very fast action taker, and have a true vision for what my brand will accomplish. The latter came in time, but because I am inherently the former, I had an easier go at figuring out exactly what my brand stood for. Plus I am very good under pressure.

Why is online business, marketing, etc important?

Especially in today’s world, online marketing is essential for growth. Coming from a background in witchcraft, a lot of us felt very alone and isolated without the presence of social media growing up. And once Myspace hit, we were all able to find like-minded individuals in other spaces that otherwise, we would have never known existed. The internet does that for us. So whether you are a mommy blogger, a bicycle seat crafter for a specific shape, or a witch CEO, you can find your people with targeted messaging and a good old hashtag search.
