In 2020, billions of people across the globe were impacted by the coronavirus. As nations around the world were shut down and businesses were closed, some decided to take advantage of the changing circumstances. One such individual was Blaze Lloyd, a Canadian business executive and founder of the new beauty brand, Lashiivo. The company, launched during one of the most turbulent times in modern history, has become a smashing success.

Lashiivo is a brand that focuses on, as the name suggests, lashes. They sell high-quality lashes and lash accessories to customers around the world, but they also teach. Yes, Lashiivo offers courses to train others in how to become lash technicians. Lloyd, the founder of the company, has crafted a course that is easily digestible and can be completed anywhere in the world. For that reason, she has accumulated a group of some 20,000 lash professionals that represent her brand all over the globe.

Lashiivo, however, is far more than a company that sells lashes. Its website delivers professional content regularly and its Instagram is rapidly growing, already connecting with 20,000 followers. Why is this? Because Lloyd understands her customers and knows how to deliver content to her audiences. Indeed, the brand is showing no signs of slowing down. As the company gets more attention, Blaze Lloyd looks to the future. She sees an expansion for her business that will allow her to bring her brand to millions of people across the world.

Lashiivo

Lloyd has plans to open warehouses in other countries outside of Canada, starting with the United States. This will allow her to rapidly expand her business and bring more products to more people. In addition, it will enable her to have a larger presence in areas where she already has trained professionals representing her brand.

Indeed, Lloyd has pulled off nothing short of a miracle with her new business. In a time when most people could do little more than stay inside, Blaze Lloyd created and developed a business with dedication and precision. If her goal is to expand her company, there is no doubt that she will be successful in her ventures. As Lashiivo becomes more popular and its products and professional technicians spread, the brand will continue to evolve into a more holistic version. For those interested in the beauty community, or those who simply appreciate the value of hard work, Lloyd’s new enterprise is something you should certainly keep an eye on.

Brianna Michelle Young is CEO of Brianna Michelle Beauty and Brianna Michelle Coaching. In 2010, Brianna founded her bridal makeup business in Las Vegas, the wedding capital of the world. By 2019, she was widely regarded as having the most successful bridal makeup business in America. Then the Covid 19 pandemic happened in March of 2020 and the wedding business in Las Vegas completely dried up. Thus, forcing Brianna to reexamine her business model.

As a result, she founded Brianna Michelle Coaching and used the pause to help, coach, and mentor wedding and beauty professionals. While her business started with a simple call for help from a fellow beauty professional. She quickly realized that there were hundreds of wedding professionals who had skills, but no direction, no concrete formula for success. Specifically, when it came to marketing online.

In the twelve months since the pandemic hit Las Vegas, BMC has coached dozens of women on how to run a successful bridal business. Even as wedding businesses recover in Las Vegas, Brianna continues to coach, teach and mentor other wedding pros on how to build sustainable six-figure businesses through online marketing and mindset strategies without burnout.

Tell us about who you are and what you do.

I am a coach and mentor that assists aspiring wedding professionals to make the quantum leap to grow their business revenues from $1000 months to $10,000 months, sometimes even $20,000 months. Specifically, I am an online marketing strategist helping wedding professionals make money with their passion and create a life by design.

Tell us how you created this brand and what was the sole idea behind it.

About 2 years ago, after I had firmly established my mobile beauty brand, Brianna Michelle Beauty, I had started to slowly pivot into coaching and business mentoring. BMB had reached the point where it was naturally running itself. Then I got a call. It was an acquaintance who had dabbled in makeup but was now getting serious about opening a mobile makeup business in Chicago. She offered to pay me to help her.

It seemed natural to lead into a more educational role. I knew how to build a wedding business and I knew the struggles that most new business women and entrepreneurs face. When I started my mobile beauty business, I was the ultimate billboard for the struggling entrepreneur. I faced self-doubt, fear, lack of confidence, and so much uncertainty. I humbly say, I struggled probably more than most. I was homeless at age 34 after a failed long-term relationship and living in my girlfriends basement because I couldn’t afford rent. I was trying to get my bridal business off the ground with literally no seed money. I can relate to struggling entrepreneurs because I personally experienced what it was like to struggle as a new business owner. I realized I could use my experience to help other wedding professionals find a faster, less painful, path to success.

It wasn’t until March 2020, when the pandemic essentially closed down the wedding business in Las Vegas that I decided to put both feet into my coaching business! Within 6 months, I had created a second 6 figure business, all accomplished with a modest budget.

Brianna Michelle Coaching is a transformational program. We help wedding pros grow exponentially through online marketing strategies, mindset, and buyer sales psychology. We offer self-study online courses for those just wanting to get their feet wet with marketing their business, to private 1:1 sessions, for those ready to go all in. Currently, we just launched a new program called Self Made Woman for those looking to build their own online courses and coaching programs to create passive income.

Our brand’s mission is to help women become Self Made. We change their life. We make them successful. confident, fully capable of supporting themselves and their families. We take skill and turn it into profit.

Go in detail and tell us about how your brand works. You may keep this from the audience’s perspective.

Brianna Michelle Coaching is built on different levels of the wedding professionals journey and community. Based on Brianna’s 17-year experience in the wedding industry, she understands the wedding professionals’ journey, and different areas needed to maximize getting seen online, attract and book more brides.

From someone that is completely new to the business, we offer a basic course, Your 6 Figure Bridal Blueprint for Booking Out, which targets finding your ideal bride, setting your rates, and building a converting website, etc. We also offer our Posting for Profit course that is very niched down just helping wedding pros with Instagram for those that already have the basics down such as branding and pricing but aren’t sure how to use Instagram as an additional revenue source.

Private 1:1 coaching is for those that might be stuck sitting on $6K per month and have holes in their business that is preventing them from hitting over $10K months. In a 1:1 private setting, Brianna can personally comb through your online platforms, find the holes and help you scale and grow to $10K+ months.

Brianna Michelle

What is your giveaway idea through this interview? Highlight something that may interest the readers on a one-to-one basis.

We find new wedding professionals struggle with establishing a strong Instagram presence. Not knowing what to post that converts and using Instagram as an additional revenue stream are particularly challenging issues. So we have a great self-study course called the Bridal Social Suite which is a course helping you know what to post that gets you more clients and revenue.

Explain the challenges you went through while you were working on brand creation. What are the challenges you go through on an everyday basis?

My biggest learning experience as a coach was that learning that I couldn’t help everyone. I struggled going back and forth on whether to offer online courses and programs for all entrepreneurs and coaches or just wedding professionals. This mindset was holding me back from going all in. But when the pandemic happened, my wedding people needed me. We were all struggling and I saw the opportunity of how I could help. I ultimately decided to focus on my niche helping wedding professionals.

How do you manage your finances through the services you offer. Any fundings etc received?

I like reinvesting in my business and being resourceful. We were lucky to have taken advantage of the PPP loan as a resource during the Pandemic. Being resourceful has got me where I am today. There is no way I would have built both my businesses if I hadn’t gotten resourceful with finances. Look around you. Get resourceful.

Tell us your future vision about the brand. How far do you want to take it? What is your dream about taking it to the next level?

My brand is focused on achieving quantum leaping growth through strategy and mindset. The mindset work in all my programs is powerful and transformative. We are currently working on creating an entire Beauty Retreat experience based on this theme. We feel by taking this work in a more “experience” setting we will be able to reach more professionals that crave these types of mindset transformative experiences.

What message would you like to give to anybody who has a plan of creating something of their own and making a living through it?

My message is consistent with every woman I coach. Believe in yourself! Never, ever give up, and don’t be afraid to invest even if the money is tight. I truly believe it was because of my determination and the constant investing in my business and myself that I am where I am today. Living my dream life. My background is not special. I was bullied for being overweight, suffered from low self-esteem, stuttered growing up, and failed math 3 times in college. I never thought in a million years growing up I would be where I am today. It was the fighting through all my struggles that led to where I am today.

New PMU is the hottest new professional training program created by Anna Kara and Maru Oderzhakhivska for those who are looking to play an ambitious role in the beauty industry’s up and coming field of permanent makeup. Permanent makeup is the perfect path to entrepreneurial success: you can set up an entirely new career within five or six days, and once you have your permanent makeup license you can begin earning over $85,000 a year. With your private permanent make-up company, you will be your own boss. The average hourly rate for permanent makeup artists is $150, the same as top-level competitors and managers in other fields. With the help of our educational course, New PMU, you will receive your license straight after finishing your education and will be able to work in California immediately. The course tuition pays for itself after booking just fifteen clients, meaning you can easily make back all the money you spend on training yourself in just one month. No matter if you’re a student or a housewife, a mom on your maternity leave, or a beauty industry professional, New PMU is your introduction to the life-changing world of permanent makeup, and a chance to take control of your life and career.

Our unique and comprehensive educational program was created by Anna Kara to provide the best knowledge from world-famous artists and experts on the art of micro-pigmentation, as well as entrepreneurial skills and business management through our original Business Marketing and Branding class created by Maru Oderzhakhivska. After our basic training courses, you can not only provide the six most popular techniques and services of permanent makeup, but you will have a proven and successful business plan, marketing, and brand strategy to help you get your career off the ground.

What does New PMU do?

New PMU is an all-inclusive learning experience, similar to an all-inclusive resort or an all-inclusive vacation. We provide all the tools you need to succeed throughout your entire career with permanent makeup. At New PMU, we educate and support our students during their learning path. New PMU students start with the basics of permanent makeup, such as proper sanitation and hygiene standards, and build their way up to technical practice and full mastery of all permanent makeup techniques. Our course also provides students with a special training kit of necessary devices and supplies suitable for 15 clients, enough to make back more than the original money you spent on your tuition and training. You can see some action shots from our training classes on our Instagram, @NewPMU. You’ll also receive our original book of permanent makeup knowledge, a workbook full of tips and exercises.

Beyond permanent makeup application techniques, we also support our students on the business side of their new career. We think that your business strategy is just as important as the services you provide, and so we’ve created a course called Modern Marketing and Branding that’s designed to help beginners discover the ins and outs of the permanent makeup industry. Our students will learn about brand strategy, targeting, P&L, and copywriting for their website, as well as SMM techniques. We also know how hard it can be to find the right space to open your new business in, so we offer fully furnished and equipped rental spaces and stations for you to open up your shop after you graduate. Graduates of our program continue to receive online support even after they finish our training, and receive opportunities to attend professional events and advanced permanent makeup classes so they can continually improve their skills.

At New PMU, we believe everyone deserves to look and feel their best, and with the art of permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing, you can have permanently gorgeous makeup without the fuss or hassle of constantly reapplying.

Permanent makeup is available in many different styles and for many different purposes. Help someone enhance their natural beauty by filling out their eyebrows for the permanently perfect look, or add color to someone’s lips to help them widen and shape their mouth however they like. Lift someone’s eyes with permanent eyeliner or save time for another client by adding in micro filled eyeshadow areas.

Beyond cosmetic appearance, permanent makeup can also help a person feel comfortable in their skin again. Help breast cancer survivors feel comfortable and brave in their skin by offering areola tattooing after mastectomies to help restore the realistic appearance of the breast. These types of cosmetic treatments have the unique ability to bring joy and confidence to these courageous women’s faces. Disguise or hide existing scars and bring a person new confidence with restorative permanent makeup that helps them feel beautiful and confident in their skin.

Meet the owner of My Black Beauty Box Mercedes Jenkins-Carter. Mercedes along with her sister was raised by their mother on the black dollar. To elaborate a bit their mother worked for a black business that networked with other black businesses and hired black employees in a predominantly black neighborhood (for all the LA natives Crenshaw and 39th street right by Leimert Park to be exact). She found it very empowering to see people who looked like her working together to better one another. As time went on and construction on Crenshaw began she started noticing black businesses that she grew up with and loved begin to disappear and she never knew why. Shortly after this discovery she went off to school and received her degree in business and pursued a career in accounting.

While in the workforce her passion to support black businesses and entrepreneurs only grew as she would constantly watch YouTube hair and self-care videos and wonder what she can do to help revamp the black business industry. She was invited to a runway modeling show by her coworker and she found out they would have vendors before and after the show. She knew a couple of black businesses that made hair products so she decided she could sponsor a booth for each of them. Since they both made hair products she asked that they be at two different ends to allow them both a fair chance to appeal to potential buyers. Unfortunately the vending spaces were on a first come first serve basis and both of them ended up right next to each other. Mercedes witnessed something amazing that day instead of competing and putting the other product down to make themselves look better they spoke highly of one another and in the end exchanged information so they can later exchange ideas. It was like a light bulb went off in Mercedes head and she suddenly realized UNITY was the missing factor, shortly after her Black Beauty Box was in motion. Mercedes began to reach out to black business owners in the same industry (I.e candle makers & soap makers) asking if they would like to be included in her box. Once she had a yes from four businesses she created an IG group and encouraged them to share why they started their business as well as to exchange ideas with one another on how to grow their brands.

Mercedes had a conversation with her social media manager where they realized they shouldn’t be like other subscription boxes that offered trial-sized versions or full products at a premium. After all the goal was to introduce these businesses to the public in hopes that they really love them and go on to start purchasing them directly from these businesses. The decision was made that $20 plus shipping was very reasonable. After a while businesses started reaching out directly to see if they could include their business cards in the box and that was when the black directory keychain was created.

Mercedes says this idea was given directly from God after she asked what was the best way to showcase these businesses without filling the box up with business cards, the answer he gave was simple a directory QR code. The black directory keychain is groundbreaking as it eliminates the need for business cards and allows consumers to find and support black businesses while on the go. Mercedes says “what makes our directory so easy and convenient is that it’s in keychain form I’ve lost so many great business cards that I never once stopped to look for however whenever I lose my keys I definitely hunt until I find them.” My Black Beauty Box is committed to rebuilding unity among black businesses and empowering a community that has historically been financially disadvantaged.

Mercedes states, “One of the hardest obstacles I ever faced when starting and even now is getting black businesses to want to work with me without thinking I have some sort of motive other than to help them. I understand where the distrust comes from because we as a people have been hurt and done wrong time after time so over time it becomes hard to trust. However, if you ask some of the amazing people I’ve worked with you will definitely know the intentions are pure and I only want to see you win. If you’re a black business owner and want to be in the keychain or the box definitely reach out.”

Vickie is 24 years old and a freelance artist that is launching a cosmetics brand called 11: Eleven Cosmetics. She will start by launching a makeup palette in late summer. Vickie fell in love with creamy easy blendable consistencies for eyeshadows that came to life when creating this palette. This palette will work for the beginner starting to introduce makeup into their everyday routine, for the artist that can use this palette on set, for bridal makeup, and casual everyday glam, etc. After the initial launch of her palette, the brand will be a full range cosmetic line.

What is your entrepreneur’s story? How did you come about building your business?

I started playing with makeup when I was in high school. Something about always going to the mall and seeing all these bright colors to play with… I was always so curious. I started really taking my hobby into more of a career when I started watching YouTube beauty tutorials. I would sit in front of my computer on my vanity playing with makeup for hours, trying to perfect my Smokey cat eye with 3 brushes basically. I started working in cosmetics after I dropped out of college and that’s when my artistry was amplified. Suddenly I had a different path that just felt SO right. It may have been the harder path but I can’t tell you how blissful and crazy it feels when you know this is what you’re meant to be doing. Working in cosmetics I was constantly learning… new techniques, blending methods, color knowledge, etc. I moved on to working for other cosmetic companies as management. Learning textures, consistencies, techniques for those specific brands, makeup for occasions, and special effects makeup. The best part of all of this would be the look on the clients face when you’re done. You see, there’s something about makeup that makes people feel so much more confident, while people are definitely confident before, they see themselves with makeup and it accentuates so many details to their beauty. People are why this industry is so rewarding and why it works. That smile on my client’s faces is why I do this.

So years down the road and fast forward to now, I kind of focused on my Instagram for a bit and lost that “this is what I’m meant to be doing” kind of feeling. I kind of felt like I was uninspired for a while, I had talked about starting my own company for so long, and eventually, other things got in the way. Recently though, that feeling came back and stronger than ever. I know this brand is what I’m supposed to be doing. Makeup and making people look and feel beautiful runs through my veins. I know this is it and it’s my time to share everything I have learned with people who just love makeup. So be prepared. For creamy rich consistencies. Blendable and beautiful tones for every skin tone.

What is your business model — how were you able to grow so fast?

It took a couple of years for me to grow my page @queeenveee. I kept at it, being very consistent and creative. I believe that when you love what you do and have a passion for it, success comes. Through my years in freelance work in the cosmetic industry, I chose to start my own brand that will launch later this summer.

Can you give me an overview of who you are, what is your educational or overall background? What are some of your achievements?

I am an artist, a makeup consumer, and an entrepreneur. I know what an artist looks for in makeup with selection wi\\th working in the industry. As a makeup consumer, I know the standard and expectation I hold for cosmetics I purchase. And as an entrepreneur, I am constantly thinking of what to create and sell that caters to my clientele.

What have you learned through your experiences as an entrepreneur that can be used by aspiring business individuals?

As a freelance artist, I have learned how to build relationships with clients. My clients are what make my job so effortless and I’m blessed to be doing what I love to do. I believe what sets me apart is my humbleness and wanting every single one of my clients to exude happiness from beginning to end of an application. I want to build a relationship with my clients because I believe makeup is so personal and I want to get to know you better. I’ll have the same values when my brand launches as well.

What have you learned through your journey as an entrepreneur?

Never to compare yourself to other brands or other artists because no two are close to being alike. Every brand has its own niche and every person is their own masterpiece. I run my life and business with the mindset that “comparison is the thief of joy.”

I’ve learned how when you take a chance on yourself and with hard work that anything is possible. It may be difficult at first, and not everyone will agree with you! But taking a chance on yourself is priceless and being an entrepreneur is all about taking chances.

What skills and attributes make you as successful as you are?

I believe my creativity and ambition have helped pave my path for being successful. Additionally, I believe having an open mind to constantly learning and wanting to master my craft have helped evolve me and my success in the cosmetics industry.

Why is online business, marketing, etc important?

Online presence is so heavily apparent presently because of convenience and people having busy lives.

I believe that marketing is so important especially online because when people search your business it will most likely be online through a search engine. You can customize your marketing strategy to cater to every audience in specific areas of all over etc. you get to choose.

Online businesses are so important and have impacted so much especially now. The internet is a part of our daily lives and having the accessibility at your fingertips to ordering products you like is why e-commerce is so important. People get so busy at work and in their daily lives that online shops bring so much convenience to them.
