If you do not share your experiences, no one will know that they happened. Obviously, right? As people, we have an innate desire for our stories to be known, for us to be known, to feel seen, heard, and understood. But the value of your journey goes beyond your own individual need for connection. Ask yourself, who could possibly benefit from learning my experience, and why? And, please, put the feelings of being unworthy, unimportant, or not enough aside for a moment. Almost all of us experience those nagging self-doubts and even deep fears that no one would really care if we did share anyway. But let’s assume someone does care: how could your lived experience help them? Because the reality is that someone out there is waiting desperately to hear your story so that they can now feel seen, heard, known, and understood.

Ever watch a movie and see yourself as the character you enjoyed so much? You relate to them and what they need to overcome, regardless of your differences. Through the story, you feel that remarkable human connection, and you see yourself in them or as them. OR you see something in them that you aspire to be, a quality or success or result that inspires you. It happens to all of us.

That’s part of the magic of a story, particularly when displayed across a screen. You can walk out of a superhero movie feeling like you just saved the world, or an action flick believing you can get aboard an airplane while it is taking off on the runway (don’t try this, you probably can’t).

Storytelling elicits emotion, connection, and resonance. And sharing it through video allows your audience to experience your voice; your expression, passion, words, and energy. And that is what creates trust.

So, the same idea holds true in the context of using video in your business. Video allows your potential clients to get to know you, like you, and trust you faster than any other medium in the current digital world.

You’ve most likely had great obstacles to overcome in your life, challenges that felt insurmountable as you lived them, but you made it through. You grew through them, learned from them, and were influenced by them. These are your stories that have helped shape who you are, what has influenced your entrepreneurial creation, your business service, brand, product, or message.

There is only one you and someone is waiting to hear what you have to say. They want to hear your message on what inspired your business, that created the version of who you are today, in the way that only you can. This is how you stand out online.

Even if you’re talking about a similar subject matter as someone else or thousands of other people, your unique heart, passion, and stories set you apart because of your journey. And you must tell it, or they will never know.
