When the world has assumed that the COVID-19 virus should have been forgotten, it is shocking that many more people are losing their lives to the deadly virus. The delta variant has caused hospitals to be filled with both children and adults, and many schools and public spaces are contemplating switching back to being remote. Presently, the U.S. death toll stands at over 650,000. There is a significant forecast that it will be over 750,000 by December 1.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the seven-day average of U.S. hospital deaths with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases has moved to 8.9 percent from the recent peak on September 16. At Cox Health Hospitals in the U.S. alone, nothing less than 24 people died within a week. In West Virginia, there have been more deaths in the first three weeks of September than in the previous three months altogether. Reports show that Georgia has an average of 125 deaths in a day.

It is quite shocking that despite the COVID-19 vaccine, there is still an increase in COVID-19 deaths. Data from Johns Hopkins University reveals that almost 64 percent of the U.S. population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Yet, average deaths per day have climbed 40 percent over the past two weeks, from 1,387 to 1,947.

The drastic rise in the death of people has caused health workers to plead with citizens to follow every COVID-19 regulation. Recently, a heartbreaking video surfaced online showing an ICU nurse in tears, lamenting the drastic increase in death from COVID-19 and advising everyone to follow all precautions.

“We’ve been running out of body bags, and I have to walk around the hospital finding them, and then you have to double-bag them because the morgue is full, so you have to put ice on them.” You could hear the nurse say in the heartbreaking video.

Another healthcare worker, Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding, a leading epidemiologist, shared a video online showing how desperate the situation was. For the first time in six months, more than 2000 COVID-19 deaths are occurring per day.

The situation is terrible as bodies keep piling up day by day in different hospitals across the country. This has been very tiring for health workers, and many have walked off the job. He added that the main reason for the surge in COVID-19 deaths is the negligence of COVID-19 protocols like physical distancing, consistent use of face masks, hand washing, sanitization, and reliance on only the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The problem is some states have depended on just vaccines and ignored every other safety measure. But we require other safety measures like dace mask mandates, physical distancing, and mass testing, which we have neglected. There is also the need for ventilation indoors, but unfortunately, we do not do all of these,” Feigl-Ding said.
